SAT vs Everything else

Does the SAT really matter that much? I had a fantastic resume and recommendation letters. My GPA is nearly a 4.0, I’m ranked 9 in my class out of over 330 students, ect. All of my teachers always tell me how good of a student I am. Unfortunately, my SAT score just wasn’t the best :\ I don’t know what to do or how to think because this has been killing me. I feel like I am not as good of a student as I have been told the past years because of this one test… what are your thoughts and experiences? My SAT was a 1530.

on a 1600 or 2400 scale?

@mat324 I’m assuming on 2400 scale

Why can’t you retake the test? Or try the Act, it might fit you better.
To be honest, the SAT will be a huge factor in your application even if admissions is holistic. If you check some stats, you will see the lowest accepted SAT score for many of the top schools and the lowest I’ve seen is 1750~ and those are probably from recruited athletes.
It really depends on what university you are aiming for. I’m having the same problem with SAT IIs, I just can’t break them.

@CCClassof2019 yeah i know my score was super bad. When I was on the phone with admissions for the school I want to go to I explained to him my problem and he said there must’ve been something that caught their eye about my resume.

@CCClassof2019 I guess just being actively involved in the school and attending lots of tours has also helped me.

What schools are you applying to?

Well, how can you explain such a low SAT score? You can obviously take exams, you have a 4.0 GPA. Did you prepare for the SAT?

Try the ACT. Perhaps you are better suited for that exam.

While the SAT is not the only part of your application, that score will keep you out of top schools. You may need to consider test optional schools if you cannot raise your score.
