SAT Vs. GPA

I have heard that NYU pays more weight to SATs than do most colleges and weight is more than other factors like GPA? Can anyone confirm this. Also I head that if you have above a 2200 you had an extremely high likelihood of getting into Stern.

i hope what you said about stern is true… can anyone confirm this ? i rlly wanna kno.

SAT and GPA are weighted equally. You need both a high SAT and GPA to be admitted to NYU.

Having a 2,200 SAT does not make admission to Stern guaranteed. You’ll still need a 3.6+ GPA.

NYU2013- Is it highly likely to get into Stern if one has above a 2200 SAT and a 3.75 GPA ?

I would say so, yes. The combination of GPA and SAT makes it quite likely. Remember though, anything over 2,100 doesn’t give you too much of a boost as that’s already 700 (roughly) per section.

Actually, I would say most college weigh SAT more, SAT is so important! if you get better than 2200 SAT, and good junior and senior GPA, I would say you wont have problem.

NYU considers the rigor of your academic program to be most significant (as can be found by perusing their website), but weights the following all equally:

Class Rank
Extracurricular Activities
Rigor of secondary school record
Standardized Test Scores
Talent/Ability
Academic GPA

well today, I talked to one of my friends whose grandma actually works at NYU who converses with NYU admission officers, and she told me that her grandma said the SAT is more important so long as you have a decent GPA and taking rigorous courses (im talking about at least a 3.6)

That is good to hear, makes me even more nervous for my Jan SAT scores :)

Just got my Jan SAT, (1510/2240). Is that good enough to be in the 75th percentile at Stern? I may retake to get my Math to 800.

It also might depend on the school. Stern is…well…Stern. But I applied to Steinhardt for music business and got in with a 1710 SAT and a 3.4 GPA so it was probably the EC’s and essays that got me through the door. I’d imagine Steinhardt and Tisch put 50% of the weight on your portfolio/audition as well.

I actually thought that was the case and never thought I had a chance at getting accepted (because of my 1600/2400 SAT score and 3.65 GPA). But everything is possible – I was just accepted to Stern, believe it or not. My ECs and essays were just very very good! Try to make them unique.

My common app essay is about loosing my entire life savings trading derivatives in the stock market during the financial crisis, and what I learned from it. Does that seem like a good/interesting topic? If anyone would like to critique it let my know and I will PM you it.

I don’t know. I mean, I just got into Stern with a 3.618 UW/4.275 W while only getting an 1830 on the SAT. I honestly believe that it was my essays and senior year course load (AP Calculus, AP Statistics, AP English Literature, Honors Government, AP Macroeconomics, AP Microeconomics, Weightlifting) that got me through.

I think you’re ****ing ■■■■■■■■ NYU2013; 2300+ doesn’t give you a boost, but there’s still a huge difference between low 2100s and high 2200s. Go drown yourself and die.

Hmm is it possible to get in with an 89/90~ out of 100 GPA if you’ve taken the most rigorous courses available at your school? 11 APs and the rest honors/AP prep and a 2030 on the SAT? (retaking it for a higher score)

whoa dude calm down!!!
