SAT - Where to start?

I pretty much did horribly on my PSAT (1100 something) but I'd like to blame it on my lack of studying & going over answers I got wrong.

The problem is, I need to start taking SATs now (Junior in high school) & I barely have time to sleep w/ all the school & extracurricular activities going on. Yeah, yeah. Excuses excuses.

Where do I start with the preparing? What books offer the best preparations? Do SAT schooling help at all?

when are u taking the SAT ??

If you’re scoring an 1100, then, uh. Yeah.

Buy the following books:

Princeton Review Cracking the SAT

The Official SAT Study Guide

Go through the first book (learn everything, including the vocabulary words), take the tests in the first book (under timed, real conditions), and then report back on your score improvement.

After the PR book, I suggest you go through the official guide. It has 8 tests made by the CB, so what you can do is basically take one test a week out of that (preferably on Saturdays in real-conditions at a library), and spend each week analyzing what you got wrong, looking up what words you missed, and such.

If you’re not lazy and follow this regimen, you should get a much, much better score (1800+).

Best of luck!

I need ur help :D

Thanks very much!

And as for when I’m taking the SATs…probably after I study my butt off.

I’d say if you have an 1100 PSAT to wait until May or June.

Seriously, don’t worry TOO much about your PSAT scores…I mean, they’re a definite indicator, but your score should go up. I went up 270 points from my Junior PSAT score to my highest SAT score…and my sophomore PSAT score was awful.

I would advise sitting down, taking a full SAT practice test, and score yourself. From there, see what your strengths and weaknesses are, and practice, practice, practice. Maybe do 15 minutes a day of SAT practice. Trust me, I know the stress, but if you’re scared, you gotta take the time.

I thought I was all alone on this one! I did SO bad on my PSATs this year as well. I get very anxious when it comes to taking tests – long tests.

I said that I was going to study during the entire Christmas break - but no luck there. I’m taking the January 24th test… I guess it’ll hit me hard when I get those results back.

well i started my whole SAT routine with simple vocabulary, because i was weak in critical reading. Then slowly i built on top of that. Hope i helped

to CharrizeAvendano: i’m also taking the January 24th test! (you can ignore this comment, since it’s really insignificant, i’m just overreacting.)

oh i need this info too
