I checked my sat score this morning and discovered a very poor writing score. I really do not understand. Writing has always been my best category. I consistently score 730s on the writings section on practice tests. My writing score on mays sat was 730 with a 10 on the essay. For the october sat I received a 680 with a 12 on the essay. This would mean I did utterly terrible on the writing MC. What really frustrates me is that I left the sat thinking I had a shot at a 750+ and was confident I did exceptionally well. Is there any chance this is a slip up? Or did I somehow just do terrible and not realize it?

All help is appreciated, thanks

Okay so I compared scores and it just furthers my confusion. On the may sat I missed 3 of the writing multiple choice. (This is consistent on practice tests as well.) My october sat score report says I missed 20 writing multiple choice questions. That simply doesnt make sense to me. How did I go from missing 3 to 20 and to top it all off I felt I could have gotten an 800 on this one.

is there a way for collegeboard to re-grade my test? Maybe I accidentally mis-bubbled a section up or down a question?

-help

My writing score was disappointing. I did get an 11 essay but only a 67 on grammar. Completely inconsistent with what I was scoring on the practice tests. I got a 720.

Same!!! I got 800 in last november AND march! but I got a 670 this time with a 9 on essay and 66 on MC!! Doesn’t make any sense!

I got a 7 essay and 8 wrong on multiple choice. This doesn’t make sense.

I usually get perfect scores on the Writing section, and I was expecting a 10 essay with little effort.

My writing is 660… I swear that I only got 2 wrong at most. the mc wasn’t hard at all.
Scores:
Practice tests:
800 Math, 780 writing 750 CR.
Real:
710!math, 660 WR and 630!!! CR. I swear its a mistake.

Math: CB said 3 wrong. Against CC answers, I calculated only 1 wrong.

But you’re correct, the problem was more potent for CR and Writing.

Writing:

COLLEGE BOARD GAVE ME: 690.
8 wrong / SCORE 7 essay (this essay score is preposterous)

WHAT I SHOULD HAVE GOTTEN: 800.
Against CC answers, I calculated only 1-2 wrong and I expected a 10 essay.

WHAT I USUALLY GET: 800
Between 0-2 wrong.

SCORE DISCREPANCY:
- October Expected, CC answers: 800-690=110

- Usual: 800-690=110

Critical reading:

COLLEGE BOARD GAVE ME: 690.

WHAT I SHOULD HAVE GOTTEN: 800.
Against CC answers, I calculated between 1-3 wrong.

WHAT I USUALLY GET: 740-760
around 4 wrong

SCORE DISCREPANCY:
- October Expected from CC answers: 800-690=110

I feel like there is something wrong with critical reading too… Based on the CC list I only missed like 5-8 so i was expecting a 700 or so but i got a 650?

How are you guys finding out the amount you missed?

Real October 2012:
Writing: 660.
CR:630
Maths:710
I find maths hard to believe, its impossible.
Writing is also messed up. I believe I deserve a score of 10 at least and I got a 7…

Jason, I got a 7 too. Excuse my french, but what the…

I’m someone who could easily score a 12 with a day’s practice. I thought a 10 was practically guaranteed. A score of 7 is absurd and downright offensive. I think College Board has abdicated its responsibility as a non-profit that serves the people.

This kink should have been worked out instantaneously. Streamlined channels for counseling and support should have been offered. An easy way to seek relief should have been provided. And lastly, CB should have had procedures in placing accounting for this obscene error, preventing it from occurring in the first place.

It seems we are all at the whim of College Board’s sluggish and embarrassing bureaucracy.

I’m a little shocked too. I was scoring in the 710-730 range for writing on my CB practice tests, but then on the Oct SAT, ended up with a 650 on Writing with a 10 essay. I’m not so concerned about my essay, but I felt like I only missed 3 questions on the Writing section that day. Yet, I ended up with a 650!

does anyone think college board will address this issue if enough people have this problem?

It horrifies me to think I went from missing 3 mc on writing to missing 20 on writing after taking multiple practice tests in preparation…

What do you think could have gone wrong? The answer key or something may have been wrong?

exactly! I just don’t understand. I was almost certain I missed 3 math questions at most yet I got a 700 on math…

Posted on another thread as well. CR and Writing both definitely feel screwed up.

Math: CB said 1 wrong. Against CC answers, I didn’t miss any. (aka, likely a dumb mistake on my part) = 770

In June I was thinking the same as you guys but I got the hand score report and only went up 10 points because the scanner didn’t pick up one of my answers. I wouldn’t count on them making a mistake.

@nyustern, just curious, how much did it cost? And how long did it take for them to complete? Do you think it would be worth it to have it done even if we ordered QAS and if so, before or after getting it in the mail, or would it depend? Sorry for all the questions, I just really wanted to break 2200 :(

And on a side note, I forgot how long it takes for CB to mail QAS packets. Does anyone remember?

Since they changed the score it was free but if not I think $50. Took about 3 weeks. Anyway I reached my goal on this one. 2210 :)
