SAT Writing - Does Collegeboard Ever Make Mistakes?

Same, I got 690 WR… I have never gotten so low :S

Wow, looking at this is really worrying me. I got 800s in both CR and writing and wasn’t really expecting either. They weren’t completely out of reach (I got an 800 CR in May and I’ve gotten a -1 on a writing practice test before), but the fact that scores are so erratic, especially in CR and writing MC, makes me worry that CollegeBoard made an error and is going to replace my score. I can’t imagine how depressing it would be to go from what I thought was a 2340 to ~2100

Did anybody else get a significantly better score than they were expecting?

EDIT: Does anybody know if a scantron error could yield significantly more correct answers than not? I can’t think of any other error that would lead to these results and want to know whether or not I actually earned these scores.

Took the international SAT.

Got 760 in writing, only two wrong and essay score of 11. What on Earth?

@qwaszxas
Same doubts for my first SAT actually. I had a 700 for CR but I was only expecting a 650. And for my WR, it was a ridiculous 650! I have never had such low scores even when I had my first practice test without studying for a bit! On the QAS, it says that I made 4 wrong answers in a roll in the 10th sections, which is impossible.

Is it at all possible to have our essays regraded? cuz i got ONLY ONE wrong in the MC, but I got an 8 essay even though i wrote two full pages with 5 paragraphs. Is their ANY way i can get my essay regraded? please help me. I took the international test btw

No^ 10char

I know we are all upset ( I definitely am too)

I was expecting 800 in Writing, 12 essay(Pretty consistent), 780 Math and 720 Reading but ended up getting:

Math: 720
CR: 620 (This is my biggest issue)
Writing: 720 with 10 Essay - UTTER DISBELIEF

HOWEVER…Despite what seems to be a consistency in unhappy test takers (including me)…can we really be sure that the CB made a mistake with scoring? I dont want to get hopes up and see this be my actual score…

Although it’s not impossible that there were scoring errors (and isolated errors are ALWAYS possible), it looks like most October test takers had their scores impacted by a particularly brutal scoring curve. Incorrect answers had a significantly greater impact than they have had on other recent tests.

This is an especially useful explanation of how the curve works. My guess would be that CB deemed this test to have been exceptionally easy - so they compensated by making the curve much more harsh than usual. So, getting even one or two wrong had a much greater impact than any of us anticipated.

So that curve can be argued? As in, even though the CB predetermined the test to be on the “easier” curve this time…can that be changed with a high magnitude of complaints? Because I do indeed know of a large amount of test takers who did significantly worse than expected.

The saddest part is that this was my and a lot of peoples last Sat and the curve was harsh. Plus, I can’t retake it since I registered for the Subject test in December and the Nov deadline past.

Sent from my ADR6300 using CC

If I recall correctly, I had answered 45 answers correctly in the writing section, and the rest were wrong. I also got a 9 on the essay. That’s 44/49. I actually expected a higher raw score, but I don’t know what went wrong. Thought I would have gotten two wrong, at most. My essay score looks fair.

Generally, does that not equate to a 700? All I got was a lousy 670.

In 2006, cb had scantron scoring errors for the tests that were scanned at the Texas facility, I believe. Thus if cb takes all of the tests and sends a random clump to the texas facility, there may have been a scantron misreading error b ack in 2006. The error does not affect everyone. Thus, if you think that u missed 3 but the machine says that you missed 20, it might be a cb error. If u missed or omitted 7 questions but scored in the 600s (totally random example, I have no idea what the curves are), then this is due to the curve being harsh, which is not a cb error, because it is based on data collected from those specific questions given to other students in the past. Similarly, low essay grades may be due to a “computer error” if the computer is the one that is “reading and scoring the essay.”

Just for reference, I got an 800 on writing with 1 mistake on MC and a 10 on the essay.

I got 710 in writing with 3 mistakes on MC and a 10 on the essay. (international student, btw). I know someone with an 800 in writing with zero mistakes on MC and a 10 on the essay.

Guys, call CB toll free number and create a case, describe this writing score anomaly. Have them escalate the case! Please everyone do this, my daughter tells me that she got 6 wrong on most easy section of the test, also it mentioned that she omitted one question while she did not even omit single question! If everyone pursues this issue, there will be resolution. Good luck to all!

I know this is an old thread but did anyone of u get your scores increased Or is the rescore just useless ?
