SAT Writing Exemption

Will UVA care if I take the SAT again and just do the writing part so I can get an exemption? Since it's not an SAT2 test anymore I can't just take it separately and it seems like a waste to focus on the other parts since I'm already in.

What do you have to score to get an exemption?

go to the a+s website and it will be in the section with foreign language/ap credits. i think its ~720?

Yeah its 720. 680-710 if you get a 4 on AP Lang, 700-710 for a 4 on AP Lit. I'm guessing that it's ok just to do the writing part then?

"Writing Students who scored 720 or above on the SAT II writing exam earn exemption from the first writing requirement (required by the College of Arts and Sciences, the School of Architecture, and the School of Nursing).

Students may also earn a composite exemption from the first writing requirement if at least one of the following statements is true:

The student scored 680-710 on the SAT II writing exam AND scored a 5 or above on the IB (higher level A 1) exam;

The student scored 680-710 on the SAT II writing exam AND scored a 4 on the AP English language subject test;

The student scored 700-710 on the SAT II writing exam AND scored a 4 or 5 on the AP English literature exam.

No course credits are awarded for exemption"

You need to take the SAT II, not the SAT writing section.

There is no more SAT II writing exam though, not since it became an SAT I section. I think now they look at the SAT I writing component BUT I don't know that for sure.

If that is the case, just a heads up for Sigma, I believe that CB states that if you fail to fill out an entire section of the SAT I, it will be taken as a request to cancel your scores for that exam. So, fill out at least part of each section.

I'd probably just fill in some random answers. Just making sure UVA won't be like "omg bad scores."

you're lucky the writing is the first section. Honestly, if I were you, I would just blow through the Math/Verbal sections and answer only the easy ones, and guess on the rest. That way, you don't just sit there for 3 hours, bored as heck, and then experience the shock of getting a 400 on M/V sections, combined.

I could always go to sleep!

Yea there is no more writing sat ii so the writing portion of the sat i counts the same. which is a shame since the sat ii was so much easier (or so i heard... i only took the sat ii so i have no idea how much easier/harder the section on the sat i is in comparison).

I don't think they'd care at all. If you're willing to spend the money and think that you can get the score you need, then go for it. The writing requirement isn't terrible, though, and chaces are that you can fill it with some BS humanities class to boost your GPA. Nothin' wrong with that.

Hahaha I was actually thinking of signing up for the June Test date to do the same thing, I got a 4 on my English Language Exam so I only need 20 pts higher on my SAT and I absolutely loathe English. I think it's a good deal but I wasn't sure if I would get credit for it but it seems like no one knows the answer to that.

The only way to get credit is by getting a 5 on the AP Lang test or taking the class. Everything else is an exemption.

Sorry I meant exemption, I don't care about the credit I just want out of english. I will gladly take something else. Still in Engineering is the STS class which meets the first writing requirement required anyway? Even if I get an exemption would I still have to take it?

To test out of STS you had to have gotten a 5 on English Lang...no other way around it.
What angers me: I got a 4 on Lang, 5 on Lit...so, I get to take it as a sophmore if I get in. Apperently it's a great class, and I'm really excited and sort of glad I didn't test out.
