Even though most Americans deplore the shortsighted exploration of nature and the thoughtlessness disturbance of ecological balance, they are still reluctant to (change it).

what is the error between the brackets and why? is it suppose to be 'changing it'? thanks.

It should be reluctant (in changing it)

This is what I think the mistake is: (not 100% sure but pretty sure)

‘it’ is either ambiguous (if it was intended to represent only either shortsighted exploration or nature or the thoughtlessness disturbance of ecological balance) or does not properly modify the plural clause “the shortsighted exploration of nature and the thoughtlessness disturbance of ecological balance”.

Fixing the error in this case depends on what the writer was intending.

Please correct me if I’m wrong
