  1. The African continent comprises more than 50 countries, each (diverse in their) cultures and languages. A. diverse in their B. diverse in its C. is diverse in its D. of them being diverse in their E. having diversity in their The answer is b why is c wrong?

C creates a comma splice. You can’t have two complete sentences joined only by a comma.

I still cannot understand how the correct answer makes the sentence grammatically correct.
“The African continent comprises more than 50 countries, each diverse in its cultures and languages.”
What is the structure of “each diverse in its cultures and languages” ?
Diverse is an adjective, each stand for “each country”, ??? am I missing something here ?
Please help. Thanks in advance.

I’m not the best with grammar, let alone the English language but when it says “each” it is talking about the countries Individually.

@cptjosh787 You repeated what I said and it didn’t help. :frowning:

for a clearer example of similar structure, “the team comprises of 10 young ladies, each beautiful in her own way”.

How can these sentences be grammatically correct ? The non-essential clause after the comma has a structure of subject + adj + preps … where’s the verb ?

The “is” is implied. (Not that you can write it there explicitly – that would, again, make a comma splice.)
