These are from the real practice tests. the thing in parenthesis is wrong.

What should the thing in parenthesis be changed to, and why is it wrong?

(Like his other) cookbooks, in his new book Chef Louis offers lengthy explanations of what he considers to be basic cooking principles.

I don’t know why this is wrong.

In 1972, while serving as a congressional representative from New York, Shirley Chisholm became the first African American woman (to endeavor) the presidential nomination.

This was from last year’s psat. Why is this wrong?

Thanks!!!

In swimming (and in) soccer, Evangelina proved time after time to be an abler competitor than Juanita.

in this as in this, blah blah blah
it's parallelism

(As he did in his other) cookbooks, in his new book Chef Louis offers lengthy explanations of what he considers to be basic cooking principles.

modifying phrase, chef louis
the modifying phrase modifies CHEF LOUIS, not "his new book"

dunno what's wrong with the last one

The last one is incorrect because you can't endeavor a noun. Endeavor requires a complementary infinitive. For example, she could "endeavor to run for president."
