SAT Writing Not Given Any Weight?

So I heard about the fact that SAT Writing is not given as much weight as CR and Math, which is real bad news for me (I scored a 680CR 790M and 790W). I heard that universities in California give equal weight to it though, but do a lot of universities give equal weight to writing or only a few? Also, how good is a 1470 M+CR? With my scores could I get into good universities?

Bump

It doesn’t necessarily have the same weight as CR and M at some universities, but as you stated, it is weighted equally at others. A 1470 is decent, though I find that CR is the easiest to boost and a retake would probably bring CR into line with the other scores.

This is already my second time taking the test though, and I no longer have any motivation to take it again. My previous score was 2050 with a 700 in CR. I was just wondering what schools weight writing equally or if there was a comprehensive updated list of colleges that do weight SAT writing equally.

So you have a 2280 superscore? Don’t bother taking it again, dude. That’s a terrific score.

A 1490 M+CR is considered a good score?

UCs’ admissions readers will see all scores and presumably considers all sections.

CSUs use only the super score of SAT CR+M in calculating the eligibility index used to rank applicants to impacted campuses and majors.

http://thechoice.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/09/11/harvarddean-part2/ indicates that Harvard considered the W more predictive of college performance than CR and M, but that was a while ago (seems that some SAT prep companies have figured out ways to “game” the W section, so admissions readers could reconsider the weighting of such).

This is true.
