SAT writing problem?

I'm preparing for the October SAT using the blue book/Barron's 2400 and aiming for 700+ in all sections. The problem is, with writing, I'm stuck getting 39/49 (about 640 with my anticipated essay score) on the multiple choice questions. Literally, it's 39 every time. How can I break this?

Since it’s grammar, read over a prep book to make sure you understand the rules. Then keep practicing and make sure you check the answers and think them through. I had the opposite problem: I got an 80 on the MC but only an 8 essay.

Think carefully about the types of questions that you’re getting wrong. Is there a type of question that you tend to do poorly on? Is there a certain rule that’s being tested that you tend to do poorly on? Are you just rushing through the questions and not reading carefully enough? Do you get tired towards the end of the section and do poorly on the later questions?

Once you identify what sorts of problems you may be having, it’ll help you figure out how to address them. If it’s a smattering of all of the above or it seems random every time, just make sure you carefully read the solutions to each question, so that you don’t get a similar question wrong next time. Make sure you know why your answer is wrong and why another answer is right. Perhaps, review a writing prep book so that it’s all fresh in your mind.

practice, practice, practice, and then practice some more… I went from a 620 with a 10 essay (worse at mc than you) to a perfect 800 (perfect mc, and a 12 on the essay) just with 3 weeks and 10 practice tests worth of studying.
