I entered these data on the College Search forum, but I thought some parents would like to see these as well.

For reference, CB reports that the Class of 2010's average SAT 1 Writing score was 497:
http://www.collegeboard.com/press/releases/150054.html

The Common Data Set (CDS) for 2006-2007, soon to be released by many institutions, will contain new fields for SAT 1 Writing scores, as well as more info on standardized tests:
http://www.commondataset.org/

A note on population covered......most colleges expressly declared whether the statistic(s) reported were for admitted students, enrolled students, or in one case, applying students; however, a few did not mention which population was reported, so I guessed. Note that enrolled statistics will generally be lower than admitted statistics.

Reference links to each original web document containing these data can be found at:
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=235657
I found most of these data on recently updated freshman profile web pages and a few news releases.

Generally, the Writing scores are inline with reported CR & M scores.

I guess my son's 700 for writing was good enough for him to fall in the mid 50% for USC (he did enroll), tho it was his lowest portion of the SATI. Guess the PSAT will help us predict how D's writing SAT might turn out.

Himom...the PSAT does not include writing an essay. The "writing" portion of that test is not similar to the writing portion of the SAT. The CR/Math sections are somewhat similar and those scores can offer some predictive value. I'm sure the CB will give projected scores on the PSAT for the writing, although truthfully, I don't know how valuable they will be. Did they do this last year on the PSAT??

You're right that the PSAT doesn't include writing an essay, but it does give a subscore for "writing," where the child looks for grammatical errors in sentences, etc. (my S much preferred the analogies the ETS tossed). Fortunately, his SAT writing score was slightly higher than the PSAT writing subscore, even tho ETS didn't like his essay.
Not sure how much the colleges are really regarding the essays, since there has been so much controversey over it. Seems to especially penalize our kids who are very concise writers & favor those who are wordier (even if all their facts may be totally wrong). Oh well, our kids will deal with it.
