SAT Writing section question

How do the essay section and the MC writing get added up? Does the score on the essay indicate how many you can get wrong on the MC and still get certain scores?

Ex: My projected essay score is an 11 and I think I got maybe 1 wrong on the MC. Does this high essay score give me an allowance on how many I can get wrong on MC and still get a 790 or 800? Or are they independent factors that just get added together at the end?

The essay counts for 30% of the total writing grade. With a 12 essay, you can usually miss a couple MC questions and get an 800, and with a perfect MC score, you can usually get a 9 essay and get an 800, so there’s definitely some leeway. If you got 1 wrong with an 11 essay, I’d think you’d have a good shot at an 800.
