SAT Writing section question

How do the essay section and the MC writing get added up? Does the score on the essay indicate how many you can get wrong on the MC and still get certain scores?

Ex: My projected essay score is an 11 and I think I got maybe 1 wrong on the MC. Does this high essay score give me an allowance on how many I can get wrong on MC and still get a 790 or 800? Or are they independent factors that just get added together at the end?

The essay counts for about a third of your writing score and the mc counts for the other two thirds. Your scaled score depends on the curve, but an 11 essay with one wrong is most likely an 800.

Depending on the curve you might be able to get two or three wrong and still get an 800 with an 11 essay but I wouldn’t count on it.
