SAT Writing vs. ACT Writing

I was wondering if anyone else got very different scores on these. I've taken the ACT w/ Writing twice and have gotten a 7 and 8 on the Writing portion (respectively). I've taken the SAT w/ Writing only once (writing what I thought was a far worse essay) and got a 10.
Has this happened to anyone else?

I got two 8’s on the SAT and an 8 and a 12 on the ACT. (I am having my second SAT essay regarded, though, because I feel that I got majorly screwed over. I know I’m not the only one to feel this way, but at least I know my score couldn’t go DOWN any further with a re-grade. ;))

How does the "regrade" work? One's essay score can go both up or down? Technically it is called a Essay Score Investigation, which sounds like they might not even regrade it. Has anybody tried the Essay Score Investigation thing?

I would also be interested to learn if anyone has had any success with the “Essay Score Investigation Service.” As I said, I am in the process of doing so. I will let all interested parties know how it turns out. It is true that one’s score can go up or down based on the new graders’ (I’m not sure if there are 2 graders this time or not) opinion (s?) of the essay. The reason I said I was sure mine would not go down is because I don’t believe that anyone who read my essay could possibly think it deserved even WORSE than an 8. As for the “Essay Score Investigation Service,” I asked the lady at Collegeboard (Why on earth do you have to CALL to request the form to request a re-grade?) if the essays were actually graded again by different graders or if the scores were simply “investigated” in some other way. She had to ask her supervisor, but eventually came back with the answer that the essays are indeed re-graded by someone (or 2 people, I can’t remember how she put it) other than the original graders.

How does the SAT essay prompt compare to ACT essay prompt?

I thought they were both pretty stupid...but that's just my opinion. I have a hard time writing a GOOD essay in less than half an hour and on a topic that i don't care about at all. Give me more time and a topic i could relate to, and i could write a pretty good one. I feel kind of screwed over, personally.

Thanks for the info, Shadow. Now i just have to decide if I should spend 50 bucks for a slight chance of a score increase. I got a 7 on the essay, but 80 MC subscore, giving me a 740. If the essay grade changed to an 8, what score increase could I expect? 10 points? 20 points?

I think I am going to retake the SAT anyways to get an 800 on Math and a better score on Writing. If I do the Essay Score Investigation, and my essay grade changes to 8, bringing me up 20 points, then my score will be 2300. Would it look worse to retake a 2300 than my current 2280?
