SAT writing????????????????????????

I didn't really understand this either.
Why's the answer C, not E?

(Unlike) several decades ago, today's librarians teach students to evaluate the accuracy and objectivity of online resources in addition to helping them find particular books.
A.) Unlike
B.) Unlike them of
C.) Unlike those of
D.) Contrary to
E.) Contrary to those

A(In recognition to) her B(extraordinary) contributions to gospel music, in 1988 the National Endowment for the Arts C(presented) Willie Mae Ford Smith D(with) a National Heritage Award.
E(no error)

I chose E: i thought nothings wrong in this problem.
Why is the answer A?

Contrary means to contradict in some way and would require that librarians have stopped doing what they did before and replaced it with something different. The sense of the sentence is that they are simply adding some new things to what they did before and have not stopped doing things they did before and thus contrary cannot work.

The phrase is “in recognition of” not “to.” you can run to, fly to, walk to, refer to, but you can never recognition to.

Double post

It’s an idiom…it is much more common to say unlike in this context than contrary. Why? Don’t ask me…its an idiom.
