Is it "in contrast to" or "contrasting with"?

Context please?

Both seem right to me…
In contrast to that ideology, many…
Contrasting with that ideology, many…

Sentences starting with “Contrasting with” are always, always, always wrong. They should say “unlike.”

(and here’s why: “contrasting” can only be used as an active verb, and it means “putting things in contrast,” as in “the artist was contrasting her view of male sexuality with Victorian-era norms.” At least on the SAT.)

so basically it is contrasting too???

You can BE contrasting sth with/to sth else, but sth can’t be contrasting with/to sth else. Instead, it can be UNLIKE it or IN CONTRAST TO it.
