SAT Writing

Having revised her dissertation with some care, that her thesis advisor rejected the changes distressed her greatly.

(A) that her thesis advisor rejected the changes dis-tressed her greatly
(B) she found her thesis advisor’s rejection of the
changes greatly distressing
© her thesis advisor’s rejection of the changes
was a great distress
(D) she was greatly distressed about her thesis
advisor rejecting the changes
(E) her distress at her thesis advisor’s rejection of
the changes was great

I was able to come down to choices B and D. However, I do not understand why the answer is B. Please help
Thankss

(D) includes an error. “Rejecting” is a gerund, and thus must be proceeded by a genitive (possessive) noun or pronoun (in this case, “advisor’s”). In addition, style conventions favor actual nouns over gerunds, so when faced with a choice between, say, a -tion noun and an -ing noun, pick the former, all things being equal. @ThisGirlIsOnFire

Thankyou @marvin100, you are amazing.

Haha actually, I’m not. For instance, where I wrote “proceeded” below, I obviously should have written “preceded.”
