I've noticed that more kids tend to discuss their SAT scores out of 2400 than 1600 on the ND board...is this in any way indicative of the emphasis that ND's admissions process places on the writing section? In other words, for how much does that section really count within ND's admissions criteria?

it is considered optional but it can do nothing but help you if you get a decent score and send it in

correct, and it definitely id that for me

60 pts higher than any other section for me

don't worry, as vinnie said, it only helps

i don't think Notre Dame bases any decisions off of the writing score, but when you send your scores from the college board it's on there, so it never hurts to have a high score! also, in general, schools appreciate skilled writers, effective communicators. so if you write a nice admission essay and pair that with a high writing score, i think you'll earn yourself some attention!
