Sat

Hello everyone...I was wondering if anyone could give me some feedback about my stats...I am currently a senior and I am greatly interested in Hamilton...however, my SAT's aren't necessarily great at all...1980 (650W, 640CR, 690M)...I've taken 4 AP's so far and I've gotten 2 5's on AP World/US and 2 4's on Biology/English Lang...I was wondering my academic profile would still be deemed "competitive" for admission if I just submitted my AP scores instead of my SAT's...any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Looking at Hamilton's website, it looks like you need a math/science other than AP Biology.

From the website:
Acceptable Quantitative Tests: SAT Math; SAT Subject Tests in Math, Chemistry, or Physics; AP Computer Science, Chemistry, Economics, Math, or Physics; IB Chemistry, Computing Studies, Economics, Math, Physics, or Physical and Chemical Systems

So it looks like you'll need to either retake the SAT, take the SAT Math 1 or Math 2 subject test. or take the ACT.

thanks for the info...I plan on taking the ACT in sept anyway...just wanted to make sure.

Hamilton doesn't require you to send ANY SAT scores. Look at the admissions info, they ARE very particular, just not about the SAT. They understand that it's complete bs.

i thought the sat policy was similar to middlebury where you have to combine the scores...i am pretty sure that you have to send some score...

Your math SAT is still above Hamilton's avg.

Having gone through the whole painful admissions process (including one child who is at Hamilton now) with a few of my children already, I can give you an opinion on Hamilton based on their experiences. Hamilton is competitive, yet very fair with respect to admissions. Your stats, including SAT's are okay. However, in my experience they are more interested in admitting candidates that show a true desire to attend Hamilton. I do believe that the interview is crucial. In addition, they do like to admit a high percentage of qualified ED candidates. Afterall, why waste a lot of time and energy with students who apply everywhere and then say no to the school? The student body is rather homogeneous (ie. white, upper-class, MANY are Connecticut raised), so if you are minority or come from an area of the country/world that isn't represented at Hamilton, I think that you will have a better chance at admission. For what its worth, I have visited many many schools up and down the East coast, and the students at Hamilton seem intelligent, fun, and well-rounded. I have NEVER met anyone there who didn't LOVE Hamilton. If you visit and your initial impression is good, apply ED. Hope this helps.

thanks raksyr, one of my friends is a freshmen there right now and just raves about hamilton all the time. i am greatly interested in applying to hamilton, but i doubt that i will apply ed because i am not sure if i can make that commitment both academically and financially. I am very very low income and even if they expressed that they would meet full need, I haven't gotten the chance to visit the campus first hand...so my plan at the moment is to apply and if i get in I'll visit then...but again, thank you for your advice it was well received
