how long after taking the test does it take for colleges to receive your SAT/ACT scores? For example, if I take the SAT on Oct. 6, would colleges have the report by Nov. 1? Will they wait for the scores to come in to review the application?

I'm pretty positive that for most colleges, the latest date you can take the SAT is Nov. 1st. But it varies by school. Just call admissions up at CP and ask what the latest test date to be considered for priority admission* (you must have your app in by Dec. 11, I think) is.

*you have to apply priority for special programs/scholarships; even if you're not interested in all that, UMD accepts a ridiculous percentage of their class out of the 'priority' pile

Yeah, 90% to be exact. Thanks, I'll call them tomorrow.

College Board says they begin paper mailing on Nov. 2 for the Oct test

The priority deadline is December 1 so you ought to be okay but it's probably a good idea to call and check.

thanks so much MD_Mom. I was also concerned about some other schools that have a Nov. 1 deadline though. Will they wait until my scores are in to evaluate me? Or should I just call...
