so i got 2320 on oct sat 2010. i am a junior in high school. score distribution as follows:
math 800
writing 800
critical reading 720

i understand that my critical reading is rather low. should i even consider a retake (aiming for 2400 but clearly not a guarantee, probably around 10% chance) or will it look bad to colleges that i took the sat twice instead of once?

please reply seniors and college students. much appreciated!

Oh yeah, your Critical Reading is soooooooooooo low…

jeez! You almost got a perfect score! There isn’t a university in the entire US of A you couldn’t get into with those scores.
Now, you’re either hopelessly ignorant of what a good score really is, or you just want an excuse to show everyone how awesome you are.

To directly answer the question: don’t bother retaking.

Not to disparage you Leonidas, but your comment is flawed. You can’t say that he can get into any college he wants with those scores, as top tier colleges view more than just GPA and SAT scores. However, I congratulate the OP for his score.

haha, thank you Mr. Obvious. I do realise colleges don’t merely look at your SAT scores and base your admittance on them. What I meant is that there is no college in U.S.A which has a higher average entrance score than what meganfoxftw (if only she could get THOSE scores, lol) has here.
Danke.

I think it depends on a few factors. You should look at where you want to apply and see what range you fall into. You should also examine your motivation to take the SAT. If you are pumped to take the SAT and adopt a positive mindset, you’ll almost always score higher than if you enter the test room with a negative attitude. Finally, you want to ask yourself if you think you can improve on that score by a reasonable amount (meaning 40 points or so, which is only about 2 questions).

“you just want an excuse to show everyone how awesome you are” if i got a 2380+ and posted this, sure.
i’ve decided that i won’t retake (i don’t think i can do much better, might get lucky and get 2400 but not worth it) and rather take the act (im good at math, sci, writing)

it depends on what schools you’re applying to. If the college requires you to send in all your scores, then taking them again might make you look too focused on scores.
