Hey for those of you who have taken the sat2 for biology what is the best book to use to prep and also how long does it take (in terms of weeks/months and hours). I'm looking to taking it but I'm not 100% sure yet because I would have to relearn everything (took biology 2 years ago and teacher was horrible).

If you have had even one very very crappy biology class 2 years ago, you'll be fine.

really?

i was got a test prep book and took ap bio last year and some of the questions look very trivially fact and random based.... is it not bad?

im really intimidated by it also LOL

Princeton Review. closest practice tests ever. Tap your teachers for real past tests (they may have some).

PR and Barrons are a lethal combination.
this is what i did for Biology.
My last Biology class was 3 years ago.

for of those you who have used the princeton review to study with, how long did it take you? and also how many times did you read over the book

bumpppppppppppppppppppppppp

I'm taking the Bio-M test in October. If ur weak in biology like me, I'd suggest reading barrons and PR thrice (if ur aiming 750+). It depends on ur goals and ur prior knowledge in the subject. If u think u've forgotten a lot of stuff, u'll have to do some hardcore studying to get a good score since the Bio SAT II has outright random questions.

On the other hand if u have a strong bio background, u wont have to work as hard as me. You can just read each book once and get a solid score :)

^ if you have a strong background you STILL need to read both books? T.T lol as you can probably tell I don't have a solid biology background...but could you give me an example of a "random questions" (and are these topics covered in the book?). Also do I really need both barrons AND princeton review? I already got pr and I'm reading it over the first time extensively (taking notes as well) and if this book covers everything I need to know I'll just read it again. But I really don't have enough time to read the book 3 times let alone reading BOTH books 3 times

I think practice (with time constraints, trap questions, etc.) might be more important than reviewing so much (i.e., reading both books three times is a tad excessive). Reviewing is still important, though, if you don't know a good deal of the information.

The best advice I can give you is don't use Kaplan. They say that like, 30% of the test is organismal biology, which includes a lot of anatomy, including incredibly complex human systems. It isn't anywhere close to that. So don't use Kaplan, that's all.

could you guys give me examples of "trap" questions or something

The questions "Which of the following aren't part of the _______ cycle."
something like that.

I got Barrons in the beginning and it had sooo much superfluos info tht I never thought of buying PR, but when I looked at PR, I saw a lot of things that were not covered by Barrons, and vice versa.

I'd HIGHLY suggest reading both of them if u wanna achieve a high score.

k lol you guys convinced me to get barrons (ill borrow from library), but could you guys tell me whether princeton review all of the info needed to know on the sat2?

Does the Sparknotes book help at all? My mom just bought it today and I'm wondering if it's worth going through.

The PR book alone got me a 740 on Bio-E. I read it once and took notes along the way. The practices were DEAD ON. No joke. I swear, there were almost identical questions between the real exam and the PR tests. By the way, I took biology over two years ago.

^ haha thats really good to hear...how long did it take you to go over the book? (hours)

It took me 2 days to read the PR book.
I am proud to say my PR book is colorfully highlighted.
I got a 770 on E.

^ lol 2 days...ima need much more time than that, but did PR cover ALL you needed to know on the test? and also is E easier than M since more people said that they took E

I actually planned on taking M.
i did all 100 questions with ~15 minutes to spare.
But because there were 3 questions on M i wasn't sure of, I changed to E.
