Hiya,
I am looking to take the SATII Chem test in October (more than likely). The problem is, I will not be in AP Chem until next year (my senior year) and therefore will not have the class behind me for the exam. I did take a fairly rigorous Honors Chem class this year. I have no problem doing some hard studying over the summer, but I really would like an 800 on the exam.

Is this realistic without the AP class? If so, what books/resources should I use?

800 is gonna be hard. But I’m sure if you study the right info with a strong background in chemistry, you should get a pretty good score. Even if it’s not 800, I bet you can get pretty close to it. good luck!

most subject tests will be hard without the AP course. However, one of my friends in AP chem who has a D got a 770 last year, after taking regular chemistry, so I think it’s definitely possible.

You don’t need AP chem. I took it after taking honors sophomore year and was happy with my score. I know some kids who took it after AP chem who scored lower than I did.

Thanks for the responses thus far!
Like I said, I feel like I am fairly strong in the Chemistry Department right now due to my honors class, and wouldn’t mind devoting some of my summer studying as well as a couple months during the year.
Any good suggestions on books?
Is PR and Sparknotes the best, as suggested by a person earlier in this thread?

Only 1 year of advanced chemistry here…760 first try without knowing anything about equilibrium, organics, re-dox, electrochem, and kinetics :). Retaking in a week. In other words, it is completely possible to rock the SAT2 in chem without taking an AP class. And I recommend against Barron’s. There’s too much excess material that you don’t need to know. Princeton will serve just fine in my opinion.
