Does anybody know if after a Math B (New York regents Math) cirriculum, you are prepared for Math IC or Math IIC SATII? If so, which one? Has anybody done this? Do you need Pre-Calculus/Calculus?

(Btw, I thought this was cool)

You need precalculus, ie trig. On my test the trig was damn easy. Seriously either you had to button mash a calculator or have an identity memorized. You may have to learn a little on your own.

Well, that kinda sucks. Anybody else?

I'm going to be taking the Math B Regents this June and my teacher said that should prepare us for the IC test. For IIC you need Pre-calc.

Oh that's helpful advice.. thanks

anybody else know?

Basic trig and a firm grasp of functions is what you need for the IIC. Oh, and you need to know how to use a TI-83 (or higher) very well. I thought it was an overall "easy" test, but I'll find out how I did in a little over a week.

As long as you have learned all the trig up to identities you should be fine. The other misc. stuff such as vectors and limits one could self-study in a week or so. Overall it is an easy test.

There was one question that was not covered AT ALL by prep books (I actually used every single prep book there is, barron's PR kaplan petersen and Arco) on my IIC but if I thought longer I would have got the right answer.
there are three planes, lets say J,K,L,. Their equations, respectively:
x+y+z=2
x+y+z=3
x+y+z=1.5
What can you say about em? The answers referred to their parallelism, like all are parallel, none are, J is in between K, vice versa, and what not. Their were coefficients in front of the variables but I divided them out. I guessed none were paralell but I think since they all have the same coefficients (1) then they are parallel, but L is in between the others. However, that is mere speculation. I never learned how to do this. Any help is appreciated.

i am currently doin A Levels
prepared for 5 days for three SAT IIs, Writing, Physics and Math IIC
Barrons prep book only
didn't have a graphing calculator
got 800s in P & M, 780 in W
not tryin to boast but i would say that they are not a big deal
be confident and all will be fine

i quite like that BUMP killaerone

haha.. thanks
"As long as you have learned all the trig up to identities you should be fine."
Did any of you guys learn this before Pre-Calc?

I learned all the trig up to identities in Math 3, the year before pre-calc. I don't know how other schools do this but I think this is the standard curriculum in NYS. Pre-Calc for us is mostly review plus half a year of limits and derivatives. Hmmm...sounds like an oxymoron.

If you choke when it comes to tests and/or you aren't that great at trigonometry, save $150 and buy a TI-89. Become best friends with it. That calculator can solve almost any equation, graph 3d, etc. Read the owner's manual and practice some questions with it. This will save you a lot of time on the IIc. After all, the "c" in IIc stands for calculator, so you might as well make the best out of it. The TI-89 is definitely worth it though.

what is trigonometry???
can you give a exmple?

Trig deals with triangles and whatnot (for example, the functions Sine, Cosine, and Tangent are integral parts of trig). Applications of the basic trig functions are seen throughout trig, with more complex variants popping up as you delve further into the subject.

NY's mathB2 prepares you fairly well... I woudl say that you don't NEED precalc for the Math IC, but it might help a little. When I took it (I am in PreCalc), I actually wished that I had taken it right after B2 because there were some trig problems that I had forgotten the equations for. In all honesty, if you study up with a MathIC book a bit, you should be fine.

Thank you werd814. How about Math IIC? That, I would NEED pre-calculus?

Also, how important is it that I take pre-calculus before AP Calculus AB?

I woudl say that Calculus is very imporant for the MathIIc... jsut from things I've heard about it, but I don't know from experience.
