i got really sick the night before the satIIs
and did horribly on both of them (math IC and chem)
they are my best subjects and i was confident
in both of them and that's why i took them and
i ended up getting a 620 on chem and 660 on math!!
my GPA is high and these are the the first
two satIIs that i've taken but i was definitely
expecting low or mid 700s.

should i retake them? is it really worth it?
is my chance of getting into an ivy totally ruined?

Hey! The same thing happened to me my sophmore year when I took Sat II's. It was right after exam week, and I was really sick. I ended up with like a 630 and 660.
Luckilly, colleges will look towards your top three scores!

No, your chances at an Ivy are not ruined. Trust me. I know plenty of people who never had any scores in the 700s and made Cornell, UPenn and Dartmouth.

If you feel that you can really do well on a retake, go ahead. If not, just focus on other SAT IIs.

so if one bombs one or 2 SAT II's, but recovers with 2 or 3 other decent scores on different tests, schools will ignore the bad grades & only look at the good?

Depending on one's intended major or strength areas,
certain SAT IIs are more important so they aren't all equal.
i.e. one should not really "bomb out" in those SAT IIs.

Also before new SAT I, or if one does not take & submit a new SAT I,
then Writing SAT II is considered very important by the most selective colleges.
