SATII "Strongly Recommended"

Hey

Do you think that because SAT IIs are only strongly recommended and not required like in other top universities, Stanford places slightly less emphasis on them?

To what extent could a decent SAT I and poor SAT IIs hamper your chances?

Thanks

When I went on an east coast college tour I got the impression that SATIIs were of greater importance to colleges than the SATI because they gauge your ability in a specific subject. Many had sketchy feelings towards the SATI because it is an "aptitude" test, yet designed to measure a limited range of skills.

With poor SATIIs, hope that it merely reflects on a substandard curriculum at your school and not your capabilities. Here is where a strong GPA certainly helps.

"Strongly recommended" almost means required. It's basically exempting people in unusual or difficult situations. Remember that you are being compared to your peers, most of whom are high SATII scorers.

Anyways, don't take everything I said to heart. It could all be BS, since I'm not an admissions officer anyways. Also, your definition of "poor scores" could be high for others. No one is going to be rejected due to low SATII scores alone, so don't worry about it.

Shivek has the hottest gf in a smelly babu named Gee-Teaka

Shiveks sat 1 score is 2080 and his sats IIs are 660 640.. wut do u think

saran...hopefully Stanford wont consider my sex life in coming to a decision

my real SAT I score is 2170, SATIIs are 660 and 640 (no, im not delusional, i know how bad this is) class rank 1

How competitive is your school? Give us a sense of the environment you come from, and it'll be a lot easier to gauge the impact of your statistics.

International School Bangkok in Bangkok, Thailand....as an international student I guess my chances are already somewhat reduced...

If this helps, last year's valedictorian got accepted to Stanford...not great SATI (1300ish), but solid SAT II (as in high 700s)...oh and btw, he recieved $30,000 in financial aid

Hey, sounds ok. Obviously the cultural divide merits some leeway in your SAT scores. The test was designed for US students after all. It looks like you'll be fine.

Anyways, onto more important matters. How are the girls over there :).

is a 710math2c and 700biology (2150sat1) dismal for stanford?

well the math2c is above average (average is 670)... but, then again, I would assume most of the scores Stanford receives are...
the numbers for you aren't stellar, but they aren't horribly low either. with good essays/GPA, you're still okay.

Hiiiii,

I'm applying to that school too... but I only have 1 sat 2... and a crappy one.... but i don't want that to count.. is it ok if I only have 1 sat 2 (800)?

Hey Courgette,

If you are a male - No, Stanford will not take you.

If you are a female - PM sexxi pix over to TropicalTriceps and I'm sure they will reconsider.

;)

They will see ALL of your scores if you submit ANY.
