SATIIs?

SATIIs are coming up and I have not yet begun to prepare. I'm going to go to Borders today to get my prep books. I am taking:

U.S. History
Literature
Math II

I am currently in AP US History and AP Lit. In APUSH we have gotten to the War of 1812 (and I am a bit of a history buff). In AP Lit we have read Crime and Punishment, Beowulf/Sir Gawain, and started Hamlet, discussing lit devices, etc extensively for each.

I took AP Calculus AB last year and am in AP Stat this year (it's a joke).

With these considerations in mind, do I have a good base for all three tests? Is studying for a 750+ on all three in one week feasible?

Thanks for any input.

Are you taking these exams on the 9th? I highly doubt that you’ll be prepared for the US History exam, that’s A LOT of info to cram into one week, even if you’re used to studying for APUSH. You could probably be prepared for the Math II exam if you remember all the concepts from Pre-Cal/Trig/Alg 2 pretty well; most people (on this site, at least) can do well with little preparation (myself excluded >.>) so it all depends.

Literature is known to be one of the most difficult exams, even for those adept at English and can perform well on the SAT I CR section. You should take a practice test to see where you are at with this exam.

Realistically, I think you might find that you’ll need to take US History again, and possible Literature and Math as well.

I agree with neekzg.

I was in APUSH last year and took the subject test for it in June, and although we got through the Cold War, there was still a lot of information to cram and I was only able to achieve 710. I’m actually taking it again on the 9th.

With literature, it’s pretty much skills-based. I mean, I studied for it with a prep book, but it really didn’t do much for me. I ended up getting a really bad score on that one, even though I got a 33 in reading on the ACT that same month >.<;

And math…I don’t have an opinion on that one. I actually signed up for those exact tests last June, but I was so unprepared for math that I didn’t take the Math II test.

There’s not much time, but I think if you really cram for U.S. History, you might be able to do well. I don’t think you have to study too much for Literature or Math II though, especially since you already took Calculus.

Well I have taken Honors U.S. History in 9th grade as well, so it’s not like I haven’t ever learned about our history past the early 1800s. Plus I have read several books (such as the biased but eye-opening A People’s History of the United States by Howard Zinn) in the last year or so.

I think I could manage a good score by cramming the latter half of our history in the next week (hopefully).

Good to hear I won’t need much prep for Math II. I remember most concepts from all classes except some of Pre-Calc and maybe a minimal amount of Geometry. I think with some review I could be prepared.

With Literature, I understand what you guys mean by it being skills-based. That’s how the AP Lang exam was too. I’ll do my best to prepare though.

Thanks for the input guys!

Oh, I was under the impression that this was your first US History class. You could probably score well on the exam, but it is still possible that you’ll want to re-take to get your best score possible. (If you’re only a junior, you should definitely take it again in May or June)

Yeah I’m sorry, that’s my fault since I didn’t mention that; at my school everyone takes (Honors) U.S. History as a freshman, then has the option to take AP U.S. History as a junior or senior.

I am a senior actually. I wasn’t planning on taking SAT IIs since I’m using my ACTs only, but a couple of the colleges I’m looking at require them (Princeton, Harvard, etc). If I do poorly I will have one or two more chances to retake them, so I will be sure to retake if necessary. Thanks!
