satisfactory SAT with low CR: Should I retake?

This was my first sitting and I got a 2290 (710-CR/ 780-M/ 800-W (essay:12))

And since I wasn't expecting any higher than 2100, I'm pretty satisfied.
But I'm aiming for Ivies and now I'm kinda afraid that my CR is somewhat low compared to other applicants'.

I'm pretty sure that I'll get 800 on Math next time, but can't guarantee 710+ on CR.

Retake it and superscore to 2310+ (710+ -CR/ 800-M/ 800-W)
or just leave it?

A ‘12’ essay comes quite rarely, so I say no. Colleges won’t be able to resist a 2290 as it is, so you’re wasting your time and potentially hurting a perfect writing score and great math score by retaking. BE HAPPY! You did really well. Better than 99% of the country. The ivy leagues will all want you and your near-perfect score, I’m sure of it.

Hey hilroy! I actually happened to get a 2290 on my first sitting as well! And even more coincidentally, I have the exact same breakdown as you! (710 CR, 780 M, 800 W; 11 essay). I’m really curious as to what you decided to do. I am currently having the same debate that you had. Any advice? Thanks!

It won’t hurt if you retake. But getting 2310 is not significantly better than 2290, so you are not gaining much. Nevertheless, getting CR+M over the 1500 threshold is great for many top schools. If you also feel the scores is matching or higher than your expectation, you probably should put your effort on somewhere else.

Well if you’ve only taken it once, it can’t hurt to take it again and have it superscored.

CR is too hard to improve. A 2290 puts you in rarified air of 99%+. You are one and done. Congrats.

12 is an oddity for SAT’s. Stick with your score. Ivys like anything 2100 and over from what I’ve heard

thanks for the advice everyone!
