Lehigh gave me the worst financial aid out of the 7 packages I have received so far. I am probably going to Northwestern though. They gave the best aid.

I was awarded the Dean's Scholarship, which I was very happy with. The other 3 schools (public) that I am considering probably won't offer me anything, so Lehigh's package is looking excellent.

I am extremely happy with the aid they gave me, almost all grants, and it is definately a strong push towards choosing Lehigh over lafayette and tufts.

I know this is a bit off topic, but has anyone made a campus visit? If so, what were your impressions? I will be attending a Lehigh Life Day on April 14, and will be sure to post after I get back.

Interestingly, I really didn't like Lehigh the first time I visited. It was snowing, all the buildings were closed, the mountain was (obviously) hard to climb up, etc... I visited again, and fell in love. Once I got inside the classrooms, dorms, university center, and admissions hall (all very well maintained) I had a change of heart. The campus is beautiful and well kept, and the students were welcoming and really social... I'm going to the Lehigh Life Day on April 10, anyone else?

I'm going to arrive in Bethlehem on the 11th and go to the Life day on the 12th. Apparently, the weather is going to be cloudy and rainy on that day... oh well

Lehigh's grant for me was $27400 per year. I also was able to get the perkins, stafford, and frank williams loan. Their aid package was amazing. The only other school who matched it was Gettysburg, who gave me a Deans scholarship for 16500 a year and 8000 in grant aid and the stafford and work study (lehigh did too.) I was accepted to PSU and Drexel also. Drexel gave me 11500 for the deans scholarship as well as alumni scholarships, etc., but I would've had to pay 25000 a year for drexel while Lehigh is only 15000. Lehigh is the best engineering school too, so I'm surely going to Lehigh. I'm actually preparing my deposit as I sit here.

My daughter was accepted ED, is in the running for valedictorian and did not get one dime from Lehigh. She was accepted at four other schools before she got letter from Lehigh and Lehigh was the ONLY school that did not give her HUGE merit aid. Lehigh says they don't give a lot of merit aid so they have more money for need based aid. Campus looks like grand old buildings. You can translate "historic section of Bethlehem" to older buildings. Also, my niece graduated last year as mechanicial engineering major and was very happy there.
I spoke with her admissions counselor who said I could submit additional information -- senior accomplishments not available at time of application -- and did that. Counselor said chances were slim. Senior achievements not good enough -- no merit aid.
Did anyone else ask how many merit scholarships are awarded?
By the way, we went to Candidates Day last weekend -- this year Lehigh got over 11,000 application for a class of 1140.

Looking at the fact sheets are interesting. Only 60% of the kids in the 1500-1600 range are accepted. My friend Vickie was awarded the Dean's scholarship. She deserves it. They definitely don't award those scholarships based on grades, it's extra cirriculars and leadership that really matter, or so it seems.

Also, about 50% of the kids in the class are E.D. They probably accept 3500 non e-d kids and expect about 15% of them to enroll to make the class.

For appealing... if there is a special circumstance you probably just need to call them and ask them waht to do. Otherwise, if your parents income is too high, but they have other things to pay for, I guess the only thing to do is explain.
