Satisfying economics prerequiste for SAIS

I do not have any economics background. I will have to satisfy economics prerequisite prior to matriculation. Is it advisable to do this via long distance programs such as Principles of Economics at JHU or do it during summer prior to matriculation. It is expected to complete the prerequsite with a gpa of greater than 3.0.

Any opinions/thoughts for those with non-economics background who want to apply for Masters in IR?

It’s important that you do well AND get good grades in Micro/Micro Econ beforehand. You could probably do a watered down Econ prereq online somewhere and then get into trouble with your MA in IR when you have to take more advanced Econ courses.

Some people have trouble with Econ and don’t do as well as you might think - you either get it or you don’t kind of theory.

I’d recommend doing it over the summer at JHU if available. That way you know what your up against at JHU’s SAIS.

Get some other opinions.

Thanks for the reply, CJ. I would preferably want to complete the economics prerequisite before summer so that there won’t be too much pressure on me. During the summer program, I can focus on intermediate economics courses.

I live in India so there is no school here that can help me complete the prerequisite. A pessimistic thought is failing in the introductory courses and returning home before fall.

Are there any online economics courses which can help me complete the prerequisites? One I know is [Johns Hopkins SAIS Academics | Online Principles of Economics | Home](http://www.sais-jhu.edu/academics/non-degree/principles-of-economics/index.htm)

Thanks,

I did a basic Google Search for an on-line combined Micro/Macro Econ accreditied course and the JHU SAIS course you referenced seems to be your best option.
