"The prerequisites listed below are UC Berkeley campus courses. Once at UC Berkeley, students must take all prerequisites at UC Berkeley. If non-UC Berkeley college level course work was completed before admission into UC Berkeley, it can be used to satisfy prerequisite or breadth requirements (with the exception of Principles of Business (UGBA 10), which must be taken at UC Berkeley)." --from the Haas website

I'm a bit confused about what this means. I'm headed to Berkeley this fall as an incoming freshman. So if I take classes at my local community college this summer to fulfill the equivalent of Math 16A and Statistics, will I be able to transfer those units? Thanks in advance.

Yes, they said “Once at UC Berkeley” meaning once you start your classes at Berkeley in the Fall, you HAVE to take the pre-reqs at Berkeley. If you take those courses over the summer before fall, I think you’re good for credits.
I would call the undergraduate admissions to double check.

Thank you! I’ll definitely call tomorrow and make sure. Does anyone else have any input?

I agree with icecream12345 - though I would add that the phrase “Once at UC Berkeley” could also be plausibly interpreted as once you are “at UC Berkeley” as a matriculated student; in other words, after you have SIR’ed. Just more reason to contact the Haas undergraduate admissions department for clarification.

I sent the admissions office an email, but judging from Google searches it looks like lots of other people are having the same problem interpreting that paragraph. And I haven’t found a complete answer yet…

Bump, I can’t be the only one in this situation…

I had the same question. Daniel, did you get a reply from the HAAS admissions office?

Not yet; I sent the email Monday. I’ll call them tomorrow if I don’t get a reply…

Bump, no email reply yet and their phones don’t work -___-

Hey Daniel, did you ever get a reply?

Hello, yes I did.

The Haas admissions officer said that you can take classes in the summer between senior year HS and freshman year college, and those classes can be used to satisfy Haas prereqs. However, Haas strongly recommends NOT doing so. The lady straight up said that classes at community college are too easy and don’t reflect how you’d do at Berkeley. So, to maximize your resume for Haas, take all your Haas prereqs at Berkeley.

However, they did say that you can take general breadth or RC classes at community college and that would be fine. But don’t take those classes just so you can get an easy A – take them so you can get a head start on your major (perhaps pursue a minor/double major).
