I know that nobody here is in the admissions department and these sorts of questions are irritating, but how large of an impact do SATs have on applying to Brown. Is it possible to get in with scores in the low 700s and even 600s? Or is it a necessity to have very high scores to get in? Thanks!

i got a 700 on the CR section and i got in, but i did really well on the other two sections and on my sat2s, so that might have made up for it. but overall brown looks less at test scores than other schools, or at least that’s what i’ve heard.

I got in with a 2000 and I’m not an athlete. The best advice I can give you is to be yourself.

Same here. I had a 2260 and I got rejected.

Lesson of the day: Just be yourself, even if you don’t have an ultra-high SAT score. Remember Brown is trying to build a class – they’re not trying to “collect” all the geniuses.

As I quote from the Brown people:

They try to build a class every year … it’s almost like each applicant is a Lego block. How you get in is how you fit in the structure they’re trying to build. How will you contribute to the class?

Thank you for the words of wisdom everyone!

there is a wide range, here is the updated score data from today’s brown daily herald

2330 and waitlisted. To be honest, though, my GPA is 3.8 or so…GPA/rigor is way more important than SATs.

Anecdotally, I’m a 2250 admit, and I have a friend who’s a 2380 reject.
From as far as I can tell, and this is based on a few hundred anecdotes regarding Ivy applicants, you need your SATs to get you past a certain threshold, and then they no longer matter. Make sure you’re around the 50th percentile at the very least, then let the rest of your application carry you the rest of the way.
