my sat scores are 1510 out of 2400 which is a 1010…i know, uh oh haha
i dont think i am taking them again though since im majoring in musical theatre
do you know if penn state will accept you if your sats are low, but u broke the 1000, they loved your audition, you have great extra cariculars, great letters, and a good gpa (3.3)? Thanks!

Sorry. You must apply and be accepted to PSU before you can audition -- at least that was the policy several years ago when my D auditioned. Their academic standards are pretty high. You could consider re-taking the SATs. I would also suggest looking at some other schools that have a different policy -- CMU is one that will weigh your audition over your SAT. Other schools, like Pace or Montclair, have excellent MT programs and will accept lower SATs and GPAs.

It is true that you have to meet the high academic standards of PSU to be admitted to the school. You audition after you apply but before you are accepted. If the MT program accepts you they will notify the admissions office but if the school itself does not admit you based on the university standards the MT dep't. cannot offer you admittance. Hope this clarifies the proccess.

You can sign up for your audition before you apply -- in fact, you probably need to because slots fill up fast. But apply early to the school no matter because you need to have applied to actually audition.

Also, the earlier in the process you apply to the university, the better your chances for acceptance to the school itself (on the academic front). Apply by the end of October at the latest if you can.

Good students can also be accepted (as I understand it ... and ttmom can tell you more about this) to the Honors College academically and participate in that if you are also accepted into the MT BFA program.

I know this thread is a year old…but I will post for everyone else who is interested.

I can give first hand knowledge of this…I am graduating High School with a 3.2 gpa and a low SAT score (so low I’d rather not say!). But I got accepted to Penn State! During the whole audition process I was told that as long has your grades wearnt AWFUL (I was told if you have above a 3.0 and meet their SAT standards), and if they really liked you and wanted you at the school, you could be accepted. So for anyone interested in Penn State Musical Theatre with pretty average grades: wow them in your audition and you’ll be golden!

Audition, Audition, Audition has always been the golden key! SAT/ACT scores along with your GPA is important if you are looking for academic scholarships. My s received offers from each school he applied to and the academic scholarships were wonderful. Look for that talent scholarship at Penn State - even ask, I know they have it because my s was offered it. Congrats and Good Luck svb0000!

Thank you mtinfo! (love the name lol). Cary Libkin (the head of the program) actually already sent my scholarship info in the mail! I dont know for how much, but like you said. For anybody who was curious about this, YES! Penn State does have talent scholarship to give out!

Congrats, svb! That’s great.

I think that someone in the know posted before that all PSU MT accepted students are given some talent scholarships.

Thanks for your congrats notmamarose!!! and I think you are correct, everybody accepted to the Musical Theatre Program is given some form of scholarship.
