Does anybody know how much weight Wash U puts behind SAT scores in the admissions process? I just got my first scores back CR:770, M:680, W:690, 1450/1600 -or- 2140/2400 and I my math is 20 points below the middle 50%... is it worth taking again?

definitely - because they "superscore", which means taking your best section scores from all the dates you took it. even if you only improve one section, ideally math, your overall composite goes up.

and it doesn't matter if some of my scores go down? I doubt I could pull the repeat 770 on CR...

no, does not matter. they will use the 770 score as long as it's your highest in CR.

At my alumni interview for WashU, I was told that they are putting less emphasis on test scores and more on grades and extra curriculars.

If you look at the scattergrams they seem to be more score-happy than any other top university (at least last year). For class of 2012 on college data (obviously very incomplete but still useful) nobody above 2100 was outright rejected and nobody above 2300 was even waitlisted, regardless of grades.

At Johns Hopkins or Cornell it's a completely different picture.

jcool155 said that they superscore for the SAT but do they do the same for the ACT?

lockn: so much for collegedata...just from our HS,class of 2012.... waitlisted 2380, 2400 (no i'm not kidding), 2100.....accepted 2280 with the lowest rank and 2080 URM; no demonstrated interest.....

HereToSucceed92 - They also superscore for the ACT

Rodney - not surprising; the rumor on these boards is that WashU will often waitlist/decline those they think are using them as a back up to the Ivies....

Thanks palmalk!

palmalk: yea, that would be fine if all those kids were actually admitted to/applied to Ivies...haha....well, the 2400 did.......some of the others, though, had no interest in Ivies.....including the one admitted.....

that's probably why I'm going to apply ED. that way I don't have to compete with Ivy rejects in the RD process.

^^good idea!!

also, does anybody know whether I can get an alumni interview with my neighbor who went there and knows me very well? I think that he could give me a great recommendation...

Here's a link about interviews.
WUStL Interviews

Basically it says that you can get an interview with your alum neighbor but if the school arranges it, then you will not be offered an on-campus interview (which may be a downfall if you were going to visit the campus and planned on having an interview there).
It also works the other way. If you've already had an on-campus interview, you will not be able to arrange an interview with your neighbor through the school.

However, you could get your neighbor to write a letter of recommendation for you and you could include it along with your teacher and counselor recommendations.

i'm not really planning visiting campus because i just today i got my letter of confirmation for the Portfolio Plus Program at the Sam Fox school. its the 5-week summer program for students to build up their work for admission and live on campus, meaning it'll be way better then a campus visit. :] I can't wait
