Hey everyone, I have been reading these forums for a few weeks now and this is my first thread.

The first Sat I took in January I got:
750 cr, 670 math, 780 writing

Now after on this may one I got:
800 cr, 630 math, 800 writing

So basically here is my question, with a super scored 2270(1470 out of 1600), is it possible for me to get into Yale/Harvard. The reason that I am asking is because there are so many great applicants and I am wondering if my "weakness" in math(I am going to take precalculus senior year) will be seen as an immediate rejection highlighter. I am a legacy at Penn and I face a very hard decision whether to apply there (which I have a great chance of getting in) or shooting for EA Yale and in the process losing any advantage at Penn. So basically my question to all of you is, with my SATS (just that) would I be a reasonable applicant at a school like Yale and have a good (however good can be expected) chance of admittance or is it better just to take the "safe" bet. Thanks

You have a great score, but it is HYP. . . . Based on your SAT scores I'd estimate your chances at Harvard and Yale at 20% each. Your chances, however, at getting into one or the other are probably around 35%.

you really can't do a percentage chance based on SAT scores, especially since the majority of perfect scorers get rejected. you're qualified to apply to any school, but it really depends on all the other factors.

You should post this in the What Are My Chances forums... probably get more replies there.

Agree with Gfb though, great score. Don't forget, SAT is only one factor in the HYPS admission process... I know a LOT of people who got into HYPS with even a 2000~2100... (of course they had great and focused - not necessarily abundant - ECs as well as APs).

A senior at my school got into Harvard, Columbia, Brown, Georgetown, Williams, and Amherst with an 1800. She had mundane EC's and good grades at an easy school. Only thing I can think of that got her in was that she's URM. Honestly though, nobody with an 1800 should ever get into the Ivy League, that's just a slap across the face to all of us working our asses off.

^ugh! I hate affirmative action! I mean we are all humans and if those URM's can't get high scores like the rest of us then they shouldn't deserve to go to college. This world is survival of the fittest and those who are weak and those who aren't willing to get stronger should just perish...

Sorry, I know that was pretty draconian but it really psses me off.
