SAT's are unjust!!

How is it that I have like a 4.19 gpa good grades and still got under a 1700 on the sats? 2times? I'm so lost on how to get a 700 on each section. it's just not feasible.

i have a 3.79/4.36(3rd in class)... i got a 1290/1840... its grade inflation , lol, that or (insert excuse here)... lol... sometimes there's a correlation, sometimes not... ive heard of vals scoring shy of 1100(MV)... so, go figure....

haha jeremy i have a 4.333 and i got a 1770 ahhh

Well this is partly the reason they use SATs. It's a test that everyone takes so that different GPAs can come together in context ... for example, a 3.8 at a very difficult school and a 4.0 at a very easy school doesn't tell much, until seen in context of SAT scores.

Of course, this only goes so far, I know that some very smart people aren't too hot at test-taking, but I'm just saying that's the idea behind using standardized tests.

Just to put it on the table I got a 2240 and I have a 3.6 unweighted and I'm going to Northwestern... but I started off in freshman year as a huge slacker with a large upwards curve through high school ... so yeah, it's not my school, I just reformed :-P

I personally like the SATs makes up for getting B+'s in honors math. I mean there are people at my school who get 4.0 unweighted and get below 1800. If it were not for the SATs colleges would they that they are smarter than I am.

having a high gpa doesnt mean ur smart. sometimes it means ur just a work horse and study.

I actually outscored all but 2 people on the SATS at my school but I'm ranked in the 30's so ya...I don't think GPA is that great of an indicator of how you'll do (The two people that outscored me are the val and my friend who's also ranked in the 30's. We have ~3.8's weighted). You probably score in that range because 1) Maybe you're not a good test taker 2) You're not used to the format of the SAT 3) You're essay was illegible ;) 3) There's also a third less kind response but I'll withhold it.

If you're that desperate to score higher, get a prep book. It helps some people.

And the SAT's are just. Everyone takes the same test for the most part. What might be unfair is the amount of SAT prep some people get but that's a whole other discussion. and 1700 really isn't that bad of a score. You beat most of the honors kids in my school.

get over yourself and stop whining about the SAT being unfair.

Not meaning to offend but while GPA measures your ability to work hard and be smart SAT is only focused on intelligence so work horses can't get by with route memorization and practice.

theres rele nuthing you can do about it. just suck it up, and study for it like u would for any other test that ur used to getting 100s, especially if ur sumtin like 3rd in ur class...
suck it up and study. im 16th in a class of about 1500 kids, largest school on east coast (biggest or second biggest, not sure) ill tell u how i did after May scores come in

The SAT is made for this situation...

yeah kids take easy classes, etc. and get awesome grades...the SATs give me a way to get back at them.

Or kids who just don't have the natural intelligence to succeed in college get good grades.

there's this thing a lot of kids do, its called cheating, the SATs with their ludicrous security methods give colleges an indicator they can trust more

my sat makes up for my low gpa. 2390 and 4.42 so many people here seem to have 4.7.

GPAs mean nothing especially since different schools have different difficulty levels. SATs are standardized. They matter more than your GPA.

its funny when the kids with like a 4.0 gpa get like 2000 and below, becaue all they can do is memorize facts lol

4.0's in my school barely score 1800.

cause most of the 4.0's just STUDY STUDY STUDY, but not all i know some that are cool and are just naturally smart.

Hey well that's not fair really, I mean, I have a pretty low GPA (3.6uw - 88th in the class lol (/370) ) and a pretty good SAT, but I understand where colleges are coming from. There's a reason colleges care more about your high school record (which means grade point average AND course load difficulty), and that is that if you are a hard worker, you'll go farther in life, because intelligence + no/little effort usually doesn't amount to much. Although I am a little bit bitter that I didn't figure this out until recently.

4.0 UW and 2390 SAT here...
