SATs Cancelled in China

You are over generalizing. Most of the posters here are not. Your analogy is inappropriate and highly offensive…

Some people’s comments are disturbing. That’s how I felt.

@Center Then I would like to say that ignorance and arrogance must be rooted in your culture. lol

lol. Those harmed the most by such phenomena in China are Chinese test takers who really do study steadfastly. We are coerced to make great efforts to prove ourselves innocent to universities, though it wouldn’t be much use. Now I’m scheduling my next SAT to U.S. east coast. /sad

Well it is a cultural thing. I’m a Chinese international student in America. I left my country three years ago. As far as I know, cheating and plagiarizing is rampant in most Chinese schools, because schools care more about students’ test results than anything. Teachers will get higher pay if students score better. Schools will attract more students by showing the average scores higher than those of other schools, so they can make more money. So do the Test-preparing schools and agents for SAT. They try every means to steal test materials or even teach students to cheat. We are talking about a country where you can download free pirate movies, video games and music w/o getting in trouble. Book authors can copy tons of words from others’ work but still get famous. Even the government always lies. It is from this culture, where people are focus on success, money and fame so much that they ignore moral codes, beecause the country is not that civilized like U.S or other Western countries.
Also, parents are too eager to see their children success. Once I told my mom that I’m not interested in top 30 colleges that much. I just wanna go to a school suitable for me. My mom shouted at me saying that I have to get in top 30. Not just her, most parents in China are like this. Everyone wants the best. What do they do? They cheat.
I’m not justifying for Chinese students who cheat. I hate them as much as you guys do. It is the bad side of this culture and most Asian cultures. I often feel shame about this.
