SATs to Cornell

What do I need to make to be a competitive applicant (In terms of SAT scores) at Cornell? I'm applying to the engineering school, so naturally I'm taking Math II and Physics SAT IIs as well. Any information's appreciated.

aim for 700's or above in each category. This isn't an exact cutoff. Be especially good in math, 740 or above will be competitive.

Engineering school applicants have SAT scores that are above average for Cornell applicants...so I'd guess maybe 700+ and maybe 750+ for math I, math IIC, and SAT II Bio, Chem, or Phys would make you competitive. But ya know, SAT scores are only part of the package. It also depends on the rest of your app.

But for engineers, isn't SAT scores/ Academics Numero Uno criteron??

Sure but SAT scores alone aren't going to get you in. I'm just saying aim for that range to stay competitive and give yourself a good chance.

for college of engineering, do you think they prefer sat II math II over the math I? D is taking Honors pre-calc this year.

they prefer mathII

Plus Math IIC has an easier curve than IC meaning you can get a higher score while missing the same number of problems.

Hmm, when I checked the test requirements I think they actually required Math II, but I'm not sure. I'll check again.

Cornell, like any other top school, abides by the commonly heard CC saying "SATs won't get you into the school, but they can keep you out."

I'll keep that in mind and do the best I can, then.

If I put a college to receive my scores when I registered for the SAT 1, then when will that college get my scores? The same time I receive them?

honestly, i think that a 700 on math is competitive and a 700 on verbal

a 680+ is fine, i had a 690 on verbal, and a 760 on math, if that helps

avoid dipping below 650 on anything.

above 700 is the general safe range for SATs.

I had 690 math and 720 verbal, yahoo.

do you think they'll look much at the new writing section for freshman fall 2007?

gomestar, not to diss u, but i remember reading somewhere that u had like a 12 something, followed by "see, they don't matter"

yes, when I first took the test I had a high 12 or something. Took it two more times and best combined is a 1410 (i ended up with really weird scores, like the 720 was with a 590math and then the 690 math was with like a 600 verbal or something). I didn't realize that Cornell took the two best scores until relatively recently (thanks to, of course, CC). Only once did I break 1300 in one test sitting ... i cant remember if it was the second or third time taking it though, this was like 2 or 3 years ago.

for reference, i took the ACT twice, high 20 something in my junior year and a 30 my senior year in HS.
