SATs..when do I start studying?

When am I supposed to start studying/prepping for my SATs?
I want to get into an ivy...so should I start in Gr.11?

I would start in the summer of sophomore year… because you’re going to be taking it in junior year.

NOW.
10chars

then summer of sophomore year it is.
do I just get books (SAT prep) and work at it?
how would you suggest I study?

One of the best tutoring programs I have heard of was Princeton Review. They can tutor you privately or in a group session for the SAT. I used the CollegeBoard SAT Prep book and Princeton Review and it was really helpful.

Dont study it now, you have one more year to take the psat, i mean really, if you know the material (basic) then you wont do bad. Id say start studying in the beginning of 11th grade.

Rules for SAT Prep :
NEVER use Princeton/Kaplan, etc.
NEVER EVER
lol.
They are not worth the money.
Just read this http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/sat-preparation/68210-xiggis-sat-prep-advice.html</a></p>

pronto
immediately
now
but yes, summer of sophomore year sounds about right.

Start in the summer after the sophomore year ,then take it in January of the junior year (dont get disappointed if you score 1800-1900 ,then take it in June and if you study right ,you should be able to score 2100 +

What score do you need to get into Johns Hopkins?

[College Search - Johns Hopkins University - Hopkins - SAT®, AP®, CLEP®](<a href=“College Search - BigFuture | College Board”>College Search - BigFuture | College Board)

NO college has a specific score they use a variety of factors in the decision.

Just read this Xiggi’s SAT prep advice

I thought it was a waste of money to spend on the course because they basically read the book and babysit you through the tests? It is still go to read there books, right?

so whats your advice to score really high on the SATs??

My friend got a 1450 in the sat (or something in that level), he told me that he studied his junior year (about this time), he used the Xiggis pre, i think it makes sense.

Unless you are really struggling with standardized tests, I wouldn’t recommend spending hundreds of dollars on a prep course. I recommend buying the Blue Book (hooray for Half Price Books!) and doing one practice test every weekend. Make sure you thoroughly review all of the questions that you miss…this is the most important step!

I also suggest learning basic Latin roots (there’s a good list in the Gruber’s book). I’ve found that this is much more useful than rote-memorizing thousands of words.

I think that if you start studying a little this summer and take the SAT once or twice junior year, you’ll be good to go. :)

nay
all you need is 10 hours of sleep before the test
friend who had no prep but 14 hours of sleep the night before got 2210 while another friend who did 5 prep books + 2 prep courses + 6 hours of sleep got 1890

sleep > all

^Seconded. Sleep and a high protein breakfast got me a 237 on the PSATs, hopefully that (plus a bit of prep) will work out for March SAT.

hope thats the case cause i took it cold and had both of the above

okay thanks : )
