Son and I are getting in to Birmingham midday and want to walk around campus while it’s still light. Is there a place on campus we can grab a quick bite to hold us off until dinner? Would like to try something at the Ferg, if they’re still open, or even a coffee shop type place for a snack.

Thanks for any help!

Can anyone recommend a good place for dinner, nothing fancy, mom and son, in a safe part of town near campus?

For Dinner…

Will you have a car?

For places you can either walk to or take the Crimson Ride to…you can go to The Strip…many places to eat there. (“The Strip” is located on University Blvd, just west of the Stadium.)

There’s a reasonably-priced Chinese restaurant there - Swen Chinese Restaurant. We’ve liked the food there. Located near Publixs Grocery (Swen is in the shopping center that is to the east of Publix…it’s by Coldstone Creamery.)

If you’ll have a car, then we like to go to Downtown and eat at DePalma’s Italian.

Or, at Midtown Village, we like to eat at Iguana Grill (which is located in the back area - so not visible from the street.)

For Sunday…

I don’t think much is open in the Ferg on Sundays, since it’s not near the dorms. The Starbucks is open - located in the front on the second floor. It says it takes Bama Cash and Dining dollars…but it takes real money, too.
But it doesn’t take Starbucks gift cards.

[Welcome to CampusDish at The University of Alabama!](http://www.campusdish.com/en-US/CSS/Alabama/Locations/TheFergusonCenterStarbucks.htm)

.

The main places on campus that serve food on Saturdays are Lakeside and Burke, but they are usually running a more limited buffet (still lots of choices though). They’re not on campus, but Dreamland BBQ and Baumhower’s Wings are pretty good.

The strip is very near the campus (it’s closer to the quad then some of the northern and eastern fringes of the campus) and has a multitude of dining options for Saturday snacks. I would try the Crimson Cafe for a coffee snack.

Crimson Cafe is a good choice for an afternoon snack.

It’s a little but further west than Buffalo Phils on University.

It should show on the map link above if you zoom in and click labels on satellite.

My son and I will be visiting the campus in March. I want to take him to some nice places to eat that have the college “vibe”. We will be there for dinner on Sunday and Monday nights plus lunches. Any recommendations would be welcome.

Most places on-campus or on the strip will have the college vibe. Since you probably want to check out the Lakeside Dining Hall, may I suggest eating lunch there on Sunday around 1-2PM. I eat at Lakeside a lot and that’s my favorite time to go there all week.
