apparently people have received invitations to saturday in the square…can anyone confirm???

Sunday in the square and Saturday in the square are different, I believe. I think that Sunday's go out first and are for general NYU people with superior grades, GPA, etc. I think that Saturday's are for Tisch and come out later. For example, Saturday's seem to go out around Mar. 21 last year.

But I really don't know for sure and this is all based on informal research.

oooh cause over in the NYU board someone received one of them (either sat or sun im not sure) so i was just wondering...but it still gives me hope right! thanks for the info

Over on the other board, they received the SUNDAY one. I think, as I said, the SATURDAY one is for Tisch.

But don't panic even if you don't get either:

Post from 2004:

"p.s. I called NYU yesterday and they said if you do not receive an invitation to the "Saturday in the Square" for April 4th - it does not indicate you were denied admission"

thanks for clarifying :)

Happy to calm nerves during this "somewhat" nervous time!

Right...there are two different events. I imagine kids on that forum are talking of the one that is NOT for Tisch. Saturday (not Sunday) in the Square is Tisch's event.

I can give you a rough date of when that came out last year. I just know my D was lying in a hospital bed in traction awaiting surgery. Going by that recollection which is pretty vivid for me, the invitation had to have come around March 16-17. Her dad read her the mail over the phone when he got home from the hospital that night. I was in the hospital. It was very good medicine :D. I believe not everyone who gets into Tisch will get that invitation and so even if you do not, you can still get into Tisch. However, if you do get an invitation, you are definitely accepted. The event is rather nice as well.

Fingers crossed to this year's hopefuls!!!!!!!!

Edit...my post cross posted with the ones above, sorry.

do they invite based on how close you live to NYC?

No, the distance has NO factor. In fact, at the event, the Dean, in her address to parents/students mentioned all the states and countries people had come from who were at the Saturday in Square. She listed most every state!

haha thanks...i dont no what I would do without this messageboard!!

Susan, I just looked up your post from March when you were in the hospital (moving story) and that was March 21!! (when your D got the Saturday/Tisch invite)

So glad things are much different for you in March 2006~!!

Chris....it is such a blur...she was in the hospital 10 days....I guess I thought she got that before surgery but it must have been AFTER...so thanks for clearing that up!!! I recall the room she was in, no longer intensive care. I recall her dad calling when he got home (we live 50 miles away from the hospital and I stayed in her room) and her telling him to open it up and she cried out in happiness but the nurse came running in to see if everything was OK!

So, OK, let's go by what I wrote last year...which is the RIGHT date....not my memory now.....so March 21 received it!

so who gets invited to saturday in the square? Is is based on talent? Grades? I know out of the people that went to NYU last year from my school, I think two got invited, and they were SUPERIOR AMAZING students, both in GPA and Talent.

I don't know the criteria for selecting who gets the invitation. The invitation itself reads that it is for "oustanding students in the class". (not sure the definition of that)

I just got my saturaday at the square invite today but I live in NYC so it may be on its way to those of you who live far from here. I have a feeling people are gonna ask stats so... GPA:4.0 SAT 1290/1950 (I'm sure my SAT is low in comparison to some people on this board) (I also have a lot of extracurriculars and some academic awards) I applied for dramatic writing and I attended a summer program at Columbia and included a reccomendation from my writing professor there in my portfolio so maybe it is talent based as well? Regardless, I really truly wish everyone the best of luck! I hope you get an invite soon!

CONGRATULATIONS! That's a great program. A great achievement on your part. Let us know if you decide to attend. Best wishes.

congrats!!! my mail hasnt arrived yet and i live about an hour outside NYC so...who knows???

did it come in a regular sized envelope

It came in an invitation-sized enveloped. It was adressed to me with my name written in a calligraphic font. My friend who applied to CAS got her Sunday at the Sqaure invite yesterday and I got my saturday invite today so who knows? These invites may just arrive as they send them. Anyway best of luck to everyone!

The whole fat or thin envelope doesn't apply with regard to these invitations. This is NOT the official college admissions decision notitfcation. It is not the acceptance or rejection letter. It is more of "advance" notice or a form of a "likely letter" in the sense that those who receive the invitation to this event will eventually be admitted but there are others who also will be admitted who were not selected to attend this event which I believe is considered for outstanding candidates in the acceptance pool. So, it is not THE letter. It is just an invitation and it looks like an invitation in an invitation sized envelope. Admissions decisions, both acceptances and rejections, come on April 1.
