I’ve also only taken one practice test for the PSAT. The closer it gets, the more I regret not studying. I kind of know the general range of scores I’ll get, but now I’m getting worried. Would it be embarrassing if I didn’t get any recognition from National Merit? Do colleges judge you for not being recognized, if you do fine on the ACT/SAT’s?

Don’t stress out. I admit, I crammed and took a practice PSAT right before I went in to take the actual, but… xD

Study a little bit, and maybe do a few practice problems, but try to relax and make sure to get enough sleep. (:

And no, if you don’t do well on the PSAT all you miss out on is a chance at a possible full-ride to some colleges (there’s a list of colleges that give full-rides to NMFs). My cousin bombed the PSAT but did well on his SAT, and now he’s happily studying at Stanford. (:

LOL. OKay so people are always flippin out about SLEEP AT LEAST 8 HOURS.

I just want to say I sept for like 4 hours and I think I did pretty good. So don’t flip out if you don’t get 8 hours of sleep! Sleep enough so you don’t fall asleep during the test

BEST OF LUCK!

Thanks gomdorri! I feel so much less stressed. Well, actually I looked up some of those colleges, and I wish that I didn’t miss out on that, but now I guess I’ll be more motivated to study in advance for the real thing!

and thanks kimmylouie too!

I’ve actually heard from coaches that it’s two nights before the event that matters, and that if you get something like 8 hours then, and 2 hours the night before, you’ll feel like you got 8. Good thing I slept yesterday!—but not really. ;)

Geebus how were you able to function? o___o I mean, I get 4 hours of sleep usually but for standardized testing I need at least 8 hours to properly think. xD Otherwise my passage-reading speed is reaaaaaally slow and I spend more than a minute on each question. XD

OMG that’s what my 8th grade English teacher said too.
I only got around 4 hours of sleep the night before the night before though. Oh well. I think I did alright.

GOOD LUCK!! (:

Haha, that’s reassuring! Hopefully I’ll make it through without going cross-eyed. Maybe I should hit up some coffee. Although…I hear that causes excessive peeing…

Haha, well im looking over grammar, any tips you have?

Well, I didn’t exactly study, so I can’t really help you there. What I have been doing for the writing section is sounding things out in my head, and like 90% of the time that’s good enough.

I guess I’m off to catch some zzz’s now, but best of luck to everyone! Let’s kill this test >:)

bump
10char

I thought it was fairly straightforward.
Am predicting:
-0 M
-0 W
-1 or more CR

My only CR challenge was regarding the two hat question. I chose oceanographer

For the two hat one I chose biologist… and how many “No errors” did you get for the middle section in writing?

Was it the biologist or the oceanographer who was traveling and trying to change environmental policy? Whichever it was, that’s what I put for the 2 hat question.

I guess I’m wrong then. Not a big deal. And I didn’t count NEs, but I remember there were more than a couple.

How was the test…?

(look i don’t know anything… just wondering what the difficulty was)

Just finished the test.
In my opinion, it was pretty decent. Math was a guaranteed 80, but CR was a bit on the hard side as always. The second section of CR seemed easier than the first, too. Then again, I was shaking when the test started…
I thought the Writing section was a lot easier, too.

That was actually harder than the October SAT. Silly CollegeBoard.

Math was really straightforward, but did everyone get 4 for the value of m in the absolute value equations thing? And it was 52.5 mph average, right?

CR was surprisingly hardish. Usually I can blow through with an 800, but I actually had to think this time, especially that first section. Shall we discuss the answers?

Vocab screwed me over. I put nonchalant instead of intransigent. I actually had the right answer, but then I mistakenly saw an intra root and decided it was wrong. Too bad nonchalant means indifferent. And I think platitudes is corrent. Hopefully -1 will be 800.

Writing was relatively simple.

basicspace:

For the absolute value equations, I plugged in values and ended up with 2. On the average problem, I believe it was 56 mph…but I’m not so sure about this one.

I also got 4 for absolute value and 52.5 mph.

Was the answer to the vocab question about general statements (“war is bad”) sophistry or platitude? I think it’s platitude, but I put sophistry…
