Save Dr. Pierson

I do not want to spread rumors. but there may be other reasons. But he is still a good professor. Therefore we should keep him

That’s awesome! They should be considering a raise not a firing.

hes not being let go for being a “GOOD” teacher

Thank you for making false statements Pierre. Would you like to PROVE IT???

Okay Pierrechn, here is a new policy. Any thread I post you now have to power to reply and answer… and do anything you want to it. And any thread that you answered that I participated in… I will now defer to Pierrechn

you dont let someone go because they were “good” at their job, nothing false about that. obviously other reasons (budget)

xtra–I believe the irony is lost on Pierrechn.

Good professors/lecturers who are not exclusively interested in research are becoming a rarer commodity at UT. IMO, the ones who actually care about teaching their students should be given deference unless something heinous occurred.

Okay, guys update, looks like the petition will not save his job.
Subject: World Class Scholarship
Hey scholars,

I spoke to the Dean this morning and unfortunately it seems that our petition won’t do much more than show Dr. Pierson our support. Dr. Laude spoke about the budget cuts and how many lecturers that didn’t have tenure were being laid off.
I received emails and messages from people who didn’t get a chance to sign the petition and would like to. Although the petition will not likely be successful in the way we intended to, it is definitely still available to be signed by anyone who wants to.
So I would like to thank everyone one more time.

Andre Moreira

Pure speculation from me but from what my TA told me last semester is that certain faculty members, even those who are loved by students and have been with UT for a while, are being let go to make room for top reserachers and distinguished faculty members that current tenured faculty members want.

Maybe Dr. Pierson was not liked/wanted replaced by other science faculty members to get a more well-known, publicised researcher instead of someone who just taught classes?

Dunno, but I feel bad for him and I hope he finds a job soon and continues to do what he loves.

Well I’m conflicted. Getting top researchers is excellent, but the quality in courses suffer. Why can’t there be both :/

Yeah considering how much money is put into the university. :(

Oh well, now you know how much UT cares about teaching.
