Saying Hi to Admissions Officer

Hello all,

This is my first post after lurking around for a while off of google search results, so excuse if formatting isn’t so correct.

I applied to Vanderbilt regular decision, and I saw that the admissions officer reading my case was the same officer that held the Q&A zoom call at our school. I asked some good questions and had a pretty good conversation with them. I know that it’s supposed to be the regional officer who does the Q&A so they would be reviewing my application anyway, and I’ve sent a thank you email before, but part of me still wants to say hello and thanks for conducting the Q&A session, ask her a bit more. Is this advisable?

Thanks,
bluestack

If you have good, intelligent questions that can’t be easily answered on the college’s website, go for it. But I’d refrain from sending a note just to say hi, particularly now that admission offices are ramping up to the intense application review period.

No, don’t do that. Even if well-intentioned, it smells like you’re trying to curry favor and get a leg-up on other students. It’s like talking to a judge deciding your case when the other side isn’t there.

The rare time when it may be advisable to contact an admission officer is if you’ve been deferred or waitlisted. (And must be done with care. More on that when the time comes.)
