Saying that Asian culture is conservative, would it offend Asian application readers?

<p>I understood what you meant by conservative, since many/most asian cultures have a strong focus on tradition and traditional values. Putting the word “conservative” into context would probably help, although adcom members would probably be able to understand what you mean better than CCers would, particularly since they would read you whole essay.</p>

<p>I don’t think it’s offensive since it’s largely true, but you can’t just throw out the word “conservative” and then proceed to explain how you felt alienated without providing specific details. Far less important than how conservative your culture is is that your family has been unwilling to listen and reconcile their beliefs with the actualities of your world. Avoid whining.</p>

<p>Since the word “conservative” seems to have some interesting connotations in today’s partisan politics, I feel it would be wiser to describe yourself in terms of traditional values and a respect for heritage.</p>
