I want to become a MD in the future and I would like to know how great pre-med is at Stony Brook. Does SB prepare students for Med-school (meaning admissions and success in gradschoool)? Also I never applied for HC or SFM so I'm talking about Pre-med as a regular student. Is it also possible to transfer into HC then SFM after 1st yeaR? Any advice is appreciated.

diaperboy,

This may not represent real number, but I can tell you from my experience. When I was a graduate student in chemistry department at SB, we had two pre-med students in our lab doing undergraduate research for credit. One was a chemistry major and the other was a chem/biochem dual major. They were not SFM. One got into UPenn medical school and the other into SB medical school. So, it was 100% (2 out of 2) from our lab.
We had another undergradute research student who moved on to chemistry graduate program at Caltech (He was accepted from graduate programs at Harvard and MIT also).

Not sure how much this will help, but
I have some friends who are majoring in Health Sciences, and from what I gather that is a pretty good route to go because there is a lot more leniency in terms of course requirements and getting everything done for pre-med, whereas a major like Biochem or English might not work in your favor as well if you're pressed for time.
You can volunteer in the SB Health Sciences Center (hospital), do interning there, as well as do lab work in the Life Sciences building on campus over the summer.
