Did anybody elses SBMail account have a ton of spam when they first logged into it?

This might be a really dumb question, but where do you get into your SB mail account??? I looked around SOLAR and didn’t see anything there. I am sure I have a ton of garbage in mine also- if I could only find it!!!

[Division of Information Technology - Stony Brook University](http://it.cc.stonybrook.edu/)

On the left you should see sbmail link. The direct link is

http://mysbmail.stonybrook.edu

You log in with your netid. To set-up your net id log into solar, go to security and personal data, and click on the NETID maintenance link. Should be able to figure it out from there.

I don’t understand how I had so much spam, I had like 15 messages and I never even logged in or used my account at all. Really strange.

Hm, there shouldn’t be any spam in it UNLESS your e-mail just happens to match the e-mail of a student that had just left (they free it up 6 months after that student has graduated) so you may have just gotten unlucky.

Just FYI, most students here don’t use SBMail. I used it in the first semester when I came here and quickly switched back to my GMail account as there were several times when the mail server was down and I couldn’t access it. Stick with your own e-mail provider, though I highly recommend GMail ;)

That must be what it was because I just checked one of the messages and its addressed to a Jessica [my last name]

So yep, mystery solved.

Best thing is to link your SB email to your gmail account.

I did that too (link Gmail to mysbmail) for a while for any messages that I get into my SB account, but I just kept getting these junk notices from SB organizations even when I had already unsubscribed from their damn lists a while ago and I severed it. Just remember to think twice before writing your e-mail down.
