SC Honors College

@jomoney I’ve checked hashtags on social media and I’ve seen a few.

Any west coast honors acceptances yet? I have not seen any posted. Just wondering…

Still waiting here in Michigan. I want to attack the mailman every night!

@chemicmom thanks. If you hear please post and if I hear something I will do the same. It maybe they are going geographically…I noticed a lot of in-state got theirs first, followed people in NC and other nearby states…yours maybe next round followed by, hopefully, for us on the west coast.

I have not seen any posts with folks getting honors notifications postmarked January…but who knows

I did go to the website and looked where we can check the kids credentials and there are two Honors recommedations with green check marks. Who knows what that means?!?! My son is much calmer about this than me! Good luck!

That means they received his 2 letters of recommendation that were submitted. That’s all. My understanding is that some notifications will start to come out late Jan to early Feb. Good luck!

We’re in Alaska and my daughter got her Honors College acceptance in December, postmarked 12/18. So, pretty much as far as you can get  but she was in that early group, so not sure if it addresses the question of notification on the West Coast.

@July18 congrats! That is indeed as far as you can get (except, of course, Hawaii). So that theory of geographical notification is now out the window. Oh well, I have to learn to be patient…not easy.

My son hasn’t heard yet. Will we hear even if he’s not been successful? He got his acceptance into usc letter last year along with details of some scholarship money and the note that more may be coming.

They do not finish sending out honors acceptances until (I think) mid February. It is not too late to hear.

I think we will hear yes or no so we are not left wondering. @expatmum being patient is not easy for me either. I did check the credentials again and now there is a check after counselor evaluation form. So we know they are going thru their credentials. My son also got a letter saying the expect more info on the way. So, we all wait some more!!!

Thanks! My son is a Poli Sci/Econ kind of guy so I’m not even sure if the honors college is for him. It seemed very STEM focussed when I looked at the classes offered. He loves the idea of the smaller classes and the rigor though. Such a highly regarded program - we’d all be thrilled if he got in!

I was accepted OOS with a guarantee of at least 75,000 with in-state tuition, but I still have not heard back from the Honors College. Should I be concerned? 2080 SA and 4.0 UW/ 5.01W GPA if that helps. I am also waiting to hear which scholarship they are awarding me, I believe the letter said I would know by February or March.

@student9988 I wouldn’t start to worry until mid Feb, when they supposedly stop sending out the honors acceptances. Good luck!

@expatmum There will be plenty of courses for a non-stem student. D was double major - math and religion and had lots of choices every semester. Also, if your son looks forward to smaller classes he will appreciate being able to satisfy common requirements that all USC students have with honors classes. This will include science, math, language, English, history etc.

Question for anyone in the know. I received an email today encouraging me to apply to a cohort program within the International Business School. However, I have not heard from the Honors College yet so I’m not actually in the International Business School. I would love to apply to the IBA Chile, but it seems futile if I’m not even in the International program. Any one know whats going on? Does anyone think we should apply even if to just show strong interest?, I’m assuming everyone applying to the International Business School got the email.

@Benno2016 Participation on a cohort program does not necessarily demand that you are in the Honors College. If you apply to a cohort program and are accepted, you are guaranteed a spot in the IB program (GPA requirements withstanding). If you enroll without being in a cohort or Honors College, then you would go through the pre-IB track and competitive application process. Overall I’d advise anyone to fill out an application for a cohort program, especially if they are not in the Honors College.

i guess there were not joking about Feb timeline?!?!?! Still waiting here in Michigan.

This weekend my son got a letter stating that he will hear about a scholarship later. This info will be sent via UPS. I wonder if that will arrive with the Honors info? Does honors info arrive via UPS? Anybody else get this letter?
