SC Merit Scholarships

eventually you will see the scholarship info on the Self Service (my.sc.edu) but not until much later when the financial aid folks figure in your bill (the scholarship info will be reflected in that). I can’t recall when that is but it’s after the May 1 deadline I believe because they don’t even have the ‘official’ tuition for the next school year finalized yet.

Posted 20 min ago on admissions facebook that they are almost done but they are still sending out acceptances and scholarship letters.

Daughter received her merit scholarship letter today which was good timing as she also heard she was waitlisted at Georgia Tech today. She received the McKissick! Excited to visit next month for admitted student day!

So happy that my daughter received the Woodrow scholarship! Has anyone heard about Capstone yet? Would that notification have been included in the scholarship letter?

Daughter got hers today too in NC… Cooper!

I think Capstone comes separately. We were going to complete the housing application today but decided to wait until we knew for sure about Capstone.

I got the Cooper Scholarship (OOS), but I am also a NMF. Which is bigger?

SurvivorFan - You are able to stack the Lieber (NMF) Scholarship with the Cooper. Therefore, you will receive $10,000/year for 4 years, plus tuition reduction.

So happy in NC…my daughter received the Woodrow today.

Son received Sims which is enough for us to make the decision. He WILL be a screaming chicken this fall. Thanks to everyone here for the guidance. Much appreciated… heads off to do paperwork much relieved that the wait has reached a logical conclusion!

Congratulations to everyone! So excited in NJ…D received Woodrow today.

Nothing in the mail yet but just noticed a scholarship award on Self Service Carolina.

OOS (Chicago) son received Woodrow today which is great but we were surprised it wasn’t a full in state offer. His act was a 32 which equals a 1420 SAT. His grades were way above what their literature says. We are based on a 4.0 but his GPA would be a 4.75 out of 5.

Now we are very concerned about an offer to Capstone as we don’t want to send him across the country without the honors connection. My guess is that the pool of students this year is exceptional. He did not get into the Honors College. Lots of disappointments in this road to college.
Without Capstone he’s going to end up at University of Indian, Kelley School of Business where he basically received the same scholarship as South Carolina.

Anyone else who received Woodrow have the same stats? Just curious.

jjlsld- my daughter in NC received the Woodrow. She had 1290 (M+R) and a 4.3 GPA weighted. She also had many volunteer hours, extra curriculars, leadership awards, part time job and good recs, We have not received anything on Capstone. Good luck to your son with Capstone!

Congrats to all the scholarship winners!

I wouldn’t characterize Capstone as an honors program. It’s a nice program, and the kids are a step up in qualifications from the average, but still well behind the Honors college. DD has enjoyed being in it, but I don’t think it is any more academically rigorous than the regular university.

There is a possibility of transferring into the Honors College in later semesters/years, depending on how many openings they have.

My S from NC received the Cooper and invite to capstone.

@jjlsld - I am actually surprised as well your son didn’t get at least the McKissick (first one that offers in-state tuition). I wonder if it wouldn’t hurt to call and ask about it?

OOS D received invite to Capstone yesterday. She was very excited. Deposit and housing application completed!

D from NJ received the McKissick & invite to Capstone yesterday.

Neonpinklime - Did your daughter get the Capstone invite in the same package/letter that included the Cooper or did the Capstone invitation come in the separate envelope?
